Web page commentary software?

Hello Everyone.

I am new to YouTube and have been looking for software so that I can do videos where a web page is viewed and I can go through it and do commentary on what is on the screen. I see this done often and would like to do this myself.

All of the software that is available seems to come with malware, or spyware. I downloaded Camstudio from the camstudio.org, thinking if it came from the official site that it would be clean of malware. Wrong. It was loaded with it. Really bad.

Then I went to download.com top read reviews of people who have tried this type of software and they all had malware. The ones reviewers said were bad for malware or were just poor software were.....

Cartasia, Screen Cast o Matic, Web Cam Video Capture, Debut Pro Edition, Bandicam, Fraps.

I downloaded Fraps, but did not have the right video or sound card. It just did nothing.

I do not want to do gaming commentary. It seems that most of the info online is geared towards gaming.

Does anyone know of software that I can use for just web page commenting, and/or tutorials for doing this? That is not malware friendly.

Malware is likely to still be an issue though. Oh well. See what happens.

You could use a lot of the same programs that the gaming channels use, and just point the screen recorder at your browser instead of at a game. I used OBS which is essentially a streaming software, but it works great for recording on the screen. You can easily choose to screencap the browser, and you can also include a webcam and whatever other stuff you like while recording. And it's 100 % free of malware.

I don't have any experience with Camtasia. I've used Fraps, Bandicam and DXTory. FRAPS and DXTory seem to have issues recording Windows Aero which is the Windows desktop. Bandicam on the other hand is really each to grab a section of the screen, no matter what size you want. It worked well. At this point, I don't plan to try any other software as buying those three was enough for me. LOL.

I'm really surprised by this. I use Camstudio (downloaded from the official site) and never had any problems with malware and am very happy with their software. For free software, it's pretty good for basic screen recording (non-gaming)

If you're having all those problems with malware, it sounds more of an issue with your PC than the software itself.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for all the replies.

No, my laptop is very clean. Maybe that is why malware does not do well. It is detected. It was all the reviews I read about this type of software, where many people had problems with malware. Although I did download and install Camstudio and it was really, really bad. After that, I went to download.com and check the reviews and lo and behold, many others had the same problem. You can check it out.

As far as what to do. OBS was downloaded and installed it. When OBS ran, it said the graphics card (Intel HD) was not good enough. Assuming that if the graphics card is not good enough for OBS, then it won't be good enough for any of this type of software. My PC is a laptop where the graphics card cannot be replaced. I would have to buy a new and better computer, which is not going to happen.

Once again, thanks for the replies. I appreciate the suggestions.

Well, to get the best out of Camstudio, you have to download and use the XVid codec which isn't included by default. I use it for all my tutorials on YouTube with excellent results. Most of those reviews are by people who haven't actually read the manual.
