I don't know much about Vimeo so maybe some more informed folks can chime in. But I would imagine that anything you can do to get your name out there that doesn't come off as spam or desperate would be good for channel growth.
I suppose it could benefit you, I think you could probably make better use of your time by just promoting though. I don't use Vimeo so I don't know how active everyone is on there.
