Vimeo vs. YouTube

I already know most of are you going to be on YouTube's side but Vimeo has some competition with YouTube with its higher quality content and a smaller community (which can be a plus and negative) so what do you think does Vimeo have a stand against the giant YouTube?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section since vimeo is non-youtube related but it's a comparison between YouTube so it could also go in the YouTube chat and gossip....

YouTube has the commercial side of the market in place which means it`ll get the high production value shows (such as Revision3`s , BigFrame`s etc)
YouTube also boasts 800M users log in monthly.

Vimeo... I don`t like the site design, they arn`t so strict on copyright which I see as a bad thing.

I have voted YouTube, the last time I used Vimeo I didnt enjoy it, if I remember correctly I felt that there was no community when on there, it was more like a video hosting website and I didnt find it very appealing, it served well as a video hosting site though

Me too it seems the only videos you get to see are the ones picked by the staff!

I never got that feeling, but I did get the feeling that the site is somewhat lifeless. It feels almost like a library more than a theme park LOL

But, in all seriousness, I've never been there. I like YouTube. It's like my home away from home. (Which technically isn't true, considering my computer's in my room. But you get the idea.)

I think they are very different and have very different pros and cons.
Vimeo has a sort of "elite" feeling to it. I associate people and companies who use Vimeo more easily to high quality, great content and a high production value. That's because it's used by people who prefer High Quality over the quantity of visitors to the website. So before I start watching a video on Vimeo I'm already expecting something great. Before I watch a YouTube video, on the other hand, it's hard to know whether it's going to be really good, average or just total crap, since YouTube has so much of everything.

Is vimeo free to use, I haven't hear d much about it, but it could be a great place to get some extra promotion.

It's the same as YouTube, just gets less people and tends to house more 'one off' videos than big channels like iJustine or MysteryGuitarMan
