video skipping frames and has static...

I've Got It
Sup guys, i haven't posted a video in a while and the reason for that is because of my computer. everything was going fine until i tried recording a video a few weeks ago. i was recording and all of a sudden i hear a "ding" on my computer only to realize after i thought i stopped recording, that my computer had run out of memory. so it didn't record most of the video. :( ever since then ive been having problems. i bought a 3tb external hard drive and thought that would solve my problems. nope! i tried recording yesterday but had problems. i eventually got a video recorded but i watched the video and it is skipping frames and spots in the video where it has static (or "snow") flashing. they are just real quick flashes but they happen all the time after a couple minutes into the video. when i was trying to record yesterday, the computer kept bringing the message up that the computer has no more memory. when this happened the first time, i shrunk down the FRAPS files and then i moved most of them to my external hard drive thinking that would fix it. i also started using OBS to record. OBS was doing fine until i tried to record the videos straight the the ex hard drive. it makes me crate a whole new file to save the video to. i started using OBS a little while ago and don't exactly remember how i made it work but i DO remember that i didn't have to create a new file every time i wanted to record. it would do that itself. now, though, i either create a new file every time or it just makes copies of the first file. (Ex: "CC_1" as the original file then it would save the rest as "CC_1(2)" and "CC_1(3)" and so on...). im hoping someone can help me with this before Monday at the latest.

thanks!

I think the problem is that your trying to record directly to an external, in the case of most usb drives(not sure about 3.0, but definitely 2.0 and below) the write speed to your external would be too slow to for direct recording if it records in a large file size. I've never tried OBS so I don't know what that problem would be. the other thing to remember is that some recording softwares will say your harddrive is full when it goes into the red in My Computer.

If you haven't already, I recommend giving Bandicam a shot as a recording software, it's very similar to FRAPS but records in smaller file sizes, not sure if it will fix your problems but may be worth a try. Bandicam has a trial version that lets you record in 10minute segments so you can try it out before you decide to get it or not. :)

Hope something here helps ya!

The videos you make in FRAPS,are they 60 FPS?
If above is correct; Do you try and watch them in VLC? Because that does not work. (At least not for me).
But once the files are put into a rendering software (i.g. Video Vegas), it works fine.

How much space do you have available on your internal HDD/SSD's? (not total capacity, but available).
You might just need to re-install your OS. Something might just have crashed and is irreversable without a reinstall.

GamerKeebzy- Well i like OBS because i can put multiple screens on top of each other (like the face cam) and i can stream with it if i ever decide to do so. i have tried the trial version of bandicam a while ago and i dont think bandicam has a face cam option does it? also, is there a way to make my usb drive's write speed faster? im not sure what the file size is for a 20-30 minute video right now due to me not being home and that i havent thought of looking while i was at home.
Janzen- FRAPS isnt the problem because im not using it anymore. and like i said above, im not home right now so i cant tell you how much space i have left. if i do have to reinstall my OS, would that get rid of everything?
