Video Mic vs. Lavalier Mic

I plan on doing a video series on my book. I don't want to sit in front of my computer. I'll be using a Canon camcorder.

One option is I could use my Rode video mic and hook it up to a tripod so that I can get it really close to my mouth, yet still have it out of the picture.

The other option is I could use a lavalier mic. This option seems more convenient.

1) Which option do you recommend?

2) Researching a lavalier mic with good sound quality the Sennheiser ME 2 seems like a safe bet. Yet I watched a YouTube video where the ME 2 was tested against five other cheaper mics. The JK Mic-J 044 actually performed better than the ME 2, and it's only 30 dollars. However, the JC Mic is "for Sennheiser Wireless Transmitter." Does that mean I can't plug it directly into my camcorder?

1) Definitely a lav. You can just clip it to your shirt or jacket and not worry about it.
2) Anything with a standard 3.5mm plug will work with your camcorder. Most wireless transmitters use this kind of plug, and lav mics are usually used with transmitters, so that's why they say that.
