Vidcon - should I go?

Hey guys, I know vidcon is ages away, but I've been thinking about it lately.

So there are 2 pretty big youtube animators that I've been a fan of for a while, and in the last few months they have started skyping me, and we've become good friends :) (that feeling when your idols become your friend though! :woot2:) and very recently they added me into a facebook and skype group with about 20 of the BIG youtube animators! (living the dream amirite?)
anyway, they all started talking about vidcon, and how they were going to meet up, and maybe even sort out an animator panel or something and they were talking to me about going too.

Now I've never traveled away from home far, and it's always been with someone I know, I'm not at all streetwise, and I am pretty anxious meeting new people (I tend to avoid it at all costs). But the fact that it's people I really look up to its going to probably make me hyperventilate. So when they asked if I was going, I said no, I've never traveled that far, and to be honest, I can't afford it lol (truth, ive learned to live on a very very small wage so I can do youtube.) thinking that would be the end of it, they all started saying they would personally pay for my plane ticket, .... like WHAAAT? obviously I had to decline that!!! but WOW that was incredibly generous of them, especially for someone they only recently met, and such a small channel!

so now I'm thinking maybe it's worth saving up and possibly meeting these guys (they are not helping pay that ticket I would never live it down lol), it sounds like fun though, but I've never gone before,
have you ever been to vidcon? is there anything I should be careful of?

(sorry for the wall of text, I'm still in shock xD)

It's great to meet other people! :)

Although I totally get where you are coming from when it comes to being really nervous.

At college I am so quiet nobody even knows my name haha.
 
It sounds like something that would be very fun :)
And exposure is the best threatment for social anxiety. (At least it has been for me)
 
From what you have said You should absolutely love the experience and something you may regret if you dont go! Sounds like your idols & Friends will be there if you need some support. Maybe pull aside one of them and mention it. Im sure they will be very supportive and you'll have a blast!

I guess thats what I get for staying in the house all the time xD i never learn

I imagine it would be a lot of fun! :) im trying to learn more about it but the site is incredibly vague on what happens at the event. and thanks for the advice! :) ill try be more social when I can. I dont have social anxiety as far as I am aware, but im just generally inept at holding conversations, I always end up just making endless really bad jokes xD

thats the thing, at first i thought its fine but the more ive been thinking about it the more im feeling like im going to regret not going. thanks!

Hope you go man. Im sure it will be a really good experience and probably good exposure for your channel. You will have to Vlog it or something so we can all be jealous!

If I do vlog it, It will be shot from my perspective so you can hear me but not see me xD
 
That's amazing news, honey! Really happy for you; your work is great, so you deserve it.
I've never been to VidCon myself - I can't afford it right now - but it is pretty much the place to be if you want to network and get your name out there. An animators' panel would do wonders for your channel, so if you can find a way, go for it!

And let me know how it is if you do go, as I'd love to be able to do so myself one day!
