Twitter Subscribe Requests Getting Specific

Hey All,

So, if anyone's done any kind of research into how to get people to your channel, to watch, to subscribe, one of the techniques is to DM someone who's followed you on Twitter & to ask them to check out your channel.
I've tried this in the past but ended up feeling spammy so I've stopped. I advertise my channel on my Twitter feed and that's it. I also stopped because I felt really annoyed with the constant barrage of requests to subscribe as I'm building my twitter following.

I've noticed that people are getting more and more specific when DMing now. The most recent one asked if I could not only subscribe but be active by liking, commenting frequently.

I don't know why this annoyed me but it did. Has anyone else gotten any specific requests?

Yep most people I follow now I get these types of request :L
It really annoys me because I follow someone because they tweet funny stuff and it's an immediate put off when I get these requests and unfollow :L

If someone asks me to subscribe to them I never even check out the channel. But if someone asks me to give feedback or check it out in a nice manner I'll do so, and if I like I subscribe and give them a few videos to see if it's worth staying or not.

One thing that I don't like with Twitter is that when I follow somebody new, people must be using programs to see when a popular person gets new followers. I followed the people from Shark Tank recently and sure enough, I get a lot of 'entrepreneur' twitter accounts following me or trying to communicate with me. It is why I stopped following poker-related twitter accounts.

I think it would be different if some time had passed and maybe you built a relationship with that person. I mean if you follow them, your likely going to see their youtube channel at some point.[DOUBLEPOST=1410804381,1410804357][/DOUBLEPOST]

This definitely makes a lot more sense to me.[DOUBLEPOST=1410804467][/DOUBLEPOST]

I honestly think they do. The auto program tweet also annoys me come to think of it. The one where they message you then the program they use is attached to it.

Lately, YouTubers have followed me first (not sure how they find me) and then send the DM once I follow them back. The DMs are always nice--just asking me to check out the channel. While I can't bring myself to DM new followers about my channel, I always DM these people back that I will do so and also ask them to check out mine as well. Got one or two potentially active subs that way.

I keep waiting for some of the people to unfollow me once I say I'll check out their channel, but that hasn't happened yet.

Maybe it just happens a lot. Some people actually have a channel where it's not even their own content but they want a subscription...some people haven't actually posted anything yet. It's strange.

I know what you mean about not wanting to feel/seem spammy - I always feel awkward telling people to check out my channel in an isolated way like that - I'm more likely to be like, "Oh I made a video about that actually..." and try to be casual, lol - and I guess on Twitter I hope that when I tweet my videos people who follow me might check out specific ones and then decide to subscribe?

I think definitely promoting yourself is a good thing because you have to. Also asking to be active and liking and commenting...
It kind of made it seem like too much was being asked.

I've asked a bigger YouTuber to check out my channel via a direct message on YouTube. I did not get the reply I sought, and did not press the matter. I myself have never been the recipient of such a request. If it was a pushy request I'd ignore it. But if it was a request that came over as genuine I would be inclined to take a look.
