Too many gaming channels?

Stoobs

Loving YTtalk
I'm not judging anyone or complaining; each to their own, you know?

But there are soooo many gamers on this site, and YouTube in general!

I know it's somewhat a boom currently but I can't help people are just riding that wagon before hopping to something else?!

Your views?!

Gaming has hit mega high recently after loads of Big YouTubers are mostly gamers, I see where you're coming from 100%. I'm waiting for the day comedy sketches start rising!

Nah. I mean, if people can find a way to make something they enjoy doing productive at the same time, that's fantastic, and that's kinda what happened. People like playing video games, people like money, and hence youtube gaming was born.

Hey yeah I see the appeal but there's a huge huge influx of new gaming channels is all o was getting at.. As in.."ooh there's potential to make money here!" haha

I'm too cynical

In the early days of YouTube vlogs (didn't have a name back then), and short films sketches were really all people made. It was a cool place that people could post their videos of whatever, and share them. As gaming itself started to become it's own form of generalized media, (from it's humble start as just a toy to play with). It clung to the old pastime of going to a friends house, and sharing an adventure through gaming with them. Now, you are able to do it without leaving your own home, or friends home, or even the office. Gaming won't "die down", but I do believe the others will rise again as more and more people realize they have to make the change.

The Vlog and Comedy Sketch wagon left in 2010, before then every top YouTuber was a vlogger, comedian or news style show and ever since then gaming has grown enormously, why is gaming more popular? Because Gaming even without YouTube was a huge market already and once people started doing gaming videos, others started realizing... with that base of gamers who craved gaming videos, it's easy to understand why it outgrew vloggers who are a small niche, only really existed online and on YouTube and you have to really like the person vlogging to keep coming back and it's harder to be entertaining vloggers than gamers, you can watch a gaming video and stay there solely for the game, information or tips given.

Basically it's the easiest to upload frequently and easiest to monetize. It's a big money maker if you do it right.

There's a lot of gaming channels that try and subsequently quit because it's too bothersome for them to upload, and getting big is ridiculously hard. But the gaming channels won't die down because in the end it's still not that difficult to use a capture card and just talk aloud while you play. And if you have multiple people doing it, it's even easier because most people talk to each other while playing anyway (whereas by yourself you may have to force yourself to talk aloud), now you just have to add a microphone and capture card.

I am talking about commentary-style playthroughs specifically though - they are quite easy to make (to be good at, probably not, but the actual creation process is pretty much automatic). The only easier video type is "reaction videos" where you watch TV shows and film your own face (most people rarely even talk during them), and for the life of me I cannot comprehend why the hell anybody would ever wanna watch that.
