Those Making A Living From YouTube

Hi everyone, I have a few questions to those people who make a living from YouTube. Is it all it's cracked up to be? Do you find that you get disappointed when you make less cash than usual and what is it like to actually earn a substantial amount of money from YouTube? Thanks - Josh100LuBu.
Speaking for myself and my family, it's been absolutely awesome. I still pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. When those five-figure earnings deposits hit your bank account every month, you just can't believe it's actually real. I was raised in a blue-collar family where unemployment and food stamps were sadly common, so my children are experiencing a very different childhood than I did.

One of my initial worries about going full-time was that it might indirectly put pressure on my children. But now I see the opposite has happened, since my wife and I quit our day jobs, we all have a lot more time to be together as a family and we're a lot more relaxed when we shoot videos. We made up our minds to enjoy this to the fullest while it lasts, instead of worrying that it will go away some day.

Fantastic! You have an extraordinary channel, you clearly have a very positive work ethic and outlook on life and that is quite admirable. Best wishes.

I don't earn quite enough off youtube to live off of, but it's pretty close. However, even more valuable is the credibility you get (in my opinion). The social media and marketing skills you get are highly desired by companies, and you could pretty much go to any media or entertainment company and show your youtube channel as credentials. The fact that you have a somewhat successful youtube channel is proof enough of your command of editing, producing, videography, etc, depending on the types of videos you make. Success on YouTube highly marketable, so while you might not make enough to live off youtube alone, you could branch out into other markets directly related to youtube and make enough. For example, I'm looking into doing social media consulting, and because of my experience in YouTube, I believe I have an instant leg-up against anyone else who "claims" to be a social media "guru".

I guess my point is you can't just look at your youtube ad revenue and assume that's it. A lot of youtubers get money from a wide number of sources, but all kind of stemmed from youtube. And yes, it pretty much is what it's cracked up to be, but don't think for a second that it's easy.
To add onto this (for gaming YouTubers at least) you could also livestream on Twitch and have an immediate audience over there if you've found success with a gaming channel on YouTube, as well as any possible sponsors that channel might be able to acquire :)[DOUBLEPOST=1421543092,1421542890][/DOUBLEPOST]

Great story that, I'm glad that you've found success and are able to provide for your family by doing something you and your family enjoy doing! Props to you sir :)

While I'm not making a living, it is what keeps me from getting a "real job" as a 16 year old. When earnings are low (like this month), It's not necessarily disappointing as much as it is stressful. I feel more entitled to create more videos just to have enough money at the end of the month to pay for what I need. I hate having that feeling because my videos end up being not as "lively." But then again, I am extremely happy that I even have the ability to go home and play games for my job rather than retail like all my friends XD

How long have you been uploading videos may I ask?

Today's actually exactly 2 years since my first public video! lol
Good luck in the future. YouTube can be challenging indeed.[DOUBLEPOST=1421551511,1421551289][/DOUBLEPOST]
This post annoys the living sh!t out of me.

Hello my name is Vipsie and I make gaming videos. I have 1,000 subscribers and on average, I make about $5 a month off my videos.
However I typically never look at estimated earnings.
YouTube started for me as a way to make friends because I was Homeschooled and when I started YouTube I had maybe 2 friends in the entire world, one who was pregnant and the other was going away into college. I felt like I was being deserted by the 2 people I had so in order not to go into a horrible lonely depression state, I started a YouTube channel. And while it took a while to become established, I have quite a number of amazing friends on YouTube.
But like I said I genuinely couldn't care less about my earnings, I monetize because it allows my videos to be taken more seriously, and seen on many other monetizer's channels. When I got my first earnings check from my former Network; Freedom, it was $2.63 and I was shocked more then anything that I'd gotten ANYTHING.
The point I'm trying to reach is, it's none of your f*****g business if making enough money off of YouTube to live is "all that it's cracked up to be" because obviously it is. Watch any YouTuber who doesn't have a day job and you'd know that. Most of them live lavishly in LA, one of the most expensive cities to live in, in America.
But the vibe I got off your post is that you wanna know if it's good so that YOU can aspire to do YouTube for the money, which you should never do.

There are those of us on this social media who do it for legitimate reasons and who care more about the people watching and they people they meet, versus whether or not they have Ad Block turned on. FFS.

Sorry I got a little ragey in this post.[DOUBLEPOST=1421541079,1421540282][/DOUBLEPOST]

I made an observation that was fairly safe to assume. You're legitmately asking people if being a YouTuber is a valid career choice. Edited by staff. Like what kinda trash post is this? You literally made yourself a target. You're literally using COPYRIGHTED material on your channel for views.

So, what do we have now, you're content is unoriginal, and you're asking about making money off of YouTube. I think I'm safe in my assumption that you're doing YouTube for views. If I'm not then delete my comment, like I give a s**t.
How do you know that my content is copyrighted?

I make a partial living of it. It's great to know you're going to get extra money on top of your actual job. I basically have two jobs, YouTube and real life. XD
