The nerdy guy in the cool hat!
I want to prefix this whole post by saying I have a very small channel so all my views mostly personal opinion and some research. I can’t clime to know the secrets to success on YouTube because If I did then I would big a lot bigger then I am. I have however spent many hours researching YouTube and trying to find what makes a Channel good and bad.
With that out of the way let me get right to the heart of this post with a question, what kind of channel do you want? Anyone with enough money can pay for view, likes, subs and comments but what are they really getting? A person who is paid to view your video will rarely if ever take actually interest in your channel. If I paid millions of dollars to get as many subs as the top YouTubers would any of those subs actually watch my videos?
I do not want to build a channel of views; I want to build a channel of fans. I would take 100 loyal subscribers who watched every video and interacted with me over 10,000 people who subscribed but never commented and only watched my videos when they had nothing better to watch.
In this New Year I have been really looking at what I have been doing and why. One of the videos I made called “Be yourself because you are awesome!” and I think it’s the best thing I ever made on my channel because I was talking about something I truly cared about and people connected with it.
I think we look at numbers too much, we think “this only has 45 views” but we need to think differently. I want to build a group of loyal viewers who look forward to my videos and love to interact with me. So when we work so hard to get numbers I think we miss the people behind the numbers.
To me a good comment is worth more than a thousand views. A loyal fan is more valuable to me than a thousand casual viewers. So when you spend so much time trying to get more views or try to put your video places to get more exposure just think about the kind of people you are trying to reach. Are you looking for views or fans?
I can be ok with getting low views on my videos, I am ok with only getting a new sub every once in a blue moon because I am slowly building more than a channel I am building a community. I am connecting with other channels almost every day and offering what every help I can, just this week I have made three channel intros for people I met on this website. I want to make my channel a place where anyone can come, watch, interact, get help and grow.
I just felt like I wanted to share my heart with you guys because as soon as I found this website I felt like I finally found a home with likeminded people who want to do the best at what they do and share the experience.
I have had so much fun over the last few days reviewing channels, videos, banners and thumbnails. I will continue to do so for a long time to come. I have connected with some amazing people and I am from partnerships and friendships.
I hope to grow with, work with, collaborate with you so many of you this year and I think for the first time since I opened my channel two years ago I feel like I finally know what I want and what I am doing.
See you around!
