Totally with you there. In the end it will depend on the content creators since YouTube is all about user generated content. And someone with 10mio subs won't just move to another platform just like that and ignore YouTube. Of course, he/she would have it relatively easy to convince a large chunk of the user base to follow the new account but it would be a massive step.

And the other thing is that any other competitor would have to face the same issues YT is struggling with right now. Copyright protection. I mean, I am pretty sure that Google is equally annoyed about having to monitor all the videos because 3rd parties claim them but that's the way it is. Any other site which would become big enough would face similar issues and have to solve them. If they manage to solve them better, THEN YT might have a real battle. Until then...

It's going to be awhile before anybody takes a significant amount of traffic from YouTube/Google.

YouTube isn't going to die, It might loose attraction for a small amount of time, but it defiantly wont die. The reason being is that there are too many popular YouTubers on the site, and that lots of people have taken a chunk out of their life for youtube. Also, another reason is that, let me get this out right, How the crap is there gonna be some small video search site that's suddenly going to blow up and take over youtube? I don't know, I might be wrong, but I personally don't see youtube falling.

I would be really sad to see youtube go, but as mentioned earlier it's run my google, who sorrttaaa rule the internet, so I don't see it going anywhere, anytime soon :)

It will take 8+ years for that to happen. The site is run by freaking Google.

Well Nokia was the world leading mobile manufacturer for 12+ years before getting shot down like a rock sinks to the bottom.

YouTube is a pretty young site (since 2006) and we know that trends change all the time (especially on the internet)

YouYube will always need to improve or its out of the game. That said, google is one of the foremost R&D in computer services so it could be safe to say that either A; theyll continue develope YouTube or B; theyll buy any upcoming cometitor which they see a potential in.
