Tagging Help

In regards to tags what is the most optimal way of doing it? Say for instance we're tagging an Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare game:

Is it better to for instance to put advanced warfare in each tag adding parts to it or to write advanced warfare once and then just other things separately?

So does youtube's algorithms favour longer tags or does it combine tags together in the tags section rendering longer tags useless? Just wondering which way works better?

what i hear you should do is do each word separately then write the whole word in one tag so what ever the viewer looks up they'll find your video

ah ok that kind of answers what I wanted to know thanks! basically I think if youtube just let us use like 20 more words in our tags it'd work out nicely..... ah well

What people type in the searchbar works as tags too. For example i tagged ''assassin's creed revelations mission 1'' and my video is ranked 1 on the page(remember Youtube is heavily on watch time). You can be a pro tagger but if your watch time sucks tags won't work that well.

I break up the tags into several different types of tags, it helps in getting all the right information in there:

First I do is what I call the "specific tag". Specific tags are one word. Like for yours would be "gaming", "warfare", etc.

The second type of tag I always do is "compound tags". What a compound tag is is several words in a tag so the first compound tag I always do would be the title. And sometimes it's good to rephrase the title a few ways people might search for it.

Thirdly I use "generic tags". Ok, generic tag is like "how to" and that's a generic tag. Also "tutorial" would be a generic tag, "vlog", "marketing" here are some generic tags that we're able to do. You may want to put things like "call of duty", "video games", etc.

The fourth type of tag I always do is misspelling. Make sure you misspell a few words, see what's more frequently misspelled, and you will notice that your video will show up because it's in the tags. I always do this for my name I use Deryl, Eaves, etc. Since that's how people will search for me.

Remember DO NOT mislead your tags or titles in your YouTube videos. It can effect your video ranking.

Great point. I think a lot of people overlook this.
