I'm not sure if this has been done before or if it has and it's just not interesting.

I want to play a game with viewers. How it works is how long can you play a game (horror) without making any facial expressions or noise etc.
This idea originates from the fact letsplayers such as myself will often commentate gibberish while playing a horror game to lessen the mood and gravity of the situation in order to complete the game despite it being scary.

I will do a letsplay and will not commentate at all and the gameplay ends the moment I make a significant reaction and the viewer wins if they last longer than me and lose if they don't.

Right now I find it to be very 'dull' unless you are genuinely interested in it. It's not something that will attract people to your channel, but it might be something fans will find interesting. It was the most extreme experience I have ever felt in my gaming life. I think obtaining a heart rate monitor of some sort will increase the value in it.

I'm wondering...
Has this been done before? Who else did it?
Do you think it's boring?
Is the idea good and maybe the execution needs work?

There's a few problems I see with this.
1) No commentary at all makes it completely dull and almost pointless until the end when you finally freak out.
2) Viewers will already have seen you play, so they would know what to expect. Even if you have viewers submit their responses before you release your part, there WILL be people who try to cheat the system by recording a few playthroughs until they can complete the whole thing without screaming.

A few suggestions:
  • allow commentary because there would be no point in watching without it
  • if you're playing with viewers, then you'd have to include them in a skype chat or something and eliminate people when they finally freak out
  • instead of viewers, you could play with other youtubers instead and have like a small competition while bouncing commentary back and forth
  • instead of ending when you first freak out, maybe do like a 3 strikes rule because good horror games will have plenty of jump scares and the video might end up being too short
I've never seen anything like this, so maybe your way is good, maybe it's not. No way to know for sure until you try.

Sorry I should have clarified more. I see your points though.
I am 'inviting' the viewer to play. So I am challenging them to watch and experience it as I am. At the beginning of the video I set ground rules like. Time of day, day light, headphones, sound levels, things like that and if they beat me they leave a comment and show off. If they lose they leave a like. What I did in my practice video was first play through it until I freaked out (I actually wanted to freak out I couldn't take the pressure it was unbearable after only 2 mins). Then I rewatch it and commentate over it of course editing to significant moments.

The biggest problem I see is the dull parts. I'm thinking adding a heart rate monitor will help it rise to a climax where the viewer is anticipating me failing. I believe it will become successful if i survive one or two jump scares. I hope to make it a series where I repeat doing the same game and get better. Slender is an excellent game to do this with.

I guess I will publish the video. It's not something I want to be offering viewers atm, but I really want feedback
