I've been researching copyright law a lot lately, and am realizing more and more that putting cover songs on youtube is pretty much equal to armed robbery in the eyes of the law. I decided my covers don't belong on youtube, at least not until copyright law goes through some revision!

I'm hoping this motivates me to work on the original content I've been planning for a while. Here's to new beginnings! I wonder what my first video will be... :dead2:
 
Best of luck! They definitely need revision in a lot of areas though. I have a gaming channel and I can understand the copyright laws that go along with that, but I never understood the strictness with covers. I mean how can someone just post the audio of a song and be protected under fair use because they put up the lyrics, but a person who completely re-creates the song by covering it isn't? There's some kinda bologna there. Anyways, best of luck again! :D
 
Yeah, I have been researching lately too and honestly doing parody covers was a niche that I could of done, but it's hard to do when you can't play an instrument to make it legal! It's a bit discouraging and I wish youtube can make deals with using instrumentals.

I thought that some songs could be covered safely though? The company gets a share of your revenue if you cover their songs, right?

It seems like after youtube identifies a cover song, they flip a coin and eiether split your income with the copyright holder, or send assasins to your house to strangle you with your own guitar strings. :devil:

It's sad, but not worth the risk.
 
Ugh that's such BS. Yet people slip through the cracks all the time it's so retarded. I really hate all that crap it's just lame.
