Short video & high retention OR long video & low retention

The title of this post is pretty self explanatory.

The average retention rate for my channel is 65%. I have the impression that's a decent number. My videos average between 2 and 3 minutes.

I wonder if it makes sense to go with longer videos for the sake of advertising and watch time. But I think the retention rate will decline.

So which would you choose:

1. Shorter videos with higher retention rates.
2. Longer videos with shorter retention rates.

We believe we would rather create an amazing 2 minute video that will entertain rather than a crappy 10 minute video that will entertain no-one.

I agree completely. Using your example, if both videos had equal quality, would you produce a 2 minute video with a 70% retention rate or the 10 minute with a 30% rate?
