SEO IS A SCAM

White hat SEO gives you long term reliable gains irrespective of changes in search algorithms and anti-blackhat changes.

Black hat SEO gives you short term gains that invariably result in you losing everything.

You definitely sound like someone who has to learn the hard way.

I just about spit coffee on my monitor when I read the OP. Just for interest sake, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. If your views went down when you changed what you were doing, that just means you were doing worse SEO after the change. Providing ANY information to google at all is SEO. Zero SEO isn't really possible, but you can leave the description and tags blank, and then use a generic title with a blank custom thumbnail. Then once you've done that, let us know how using no SEO helps you out. :P

Couldn't stop laughing after reading the OP's post looooooooooooooool. SEO will work if your video's are worth watching.

I wouldn't say SEO is a scam, but you need to understand how YouTube ranks your videos in searches and what is relevant for placement in searches. If you're just going about trying to optimize tags (especially on videos that are more than 48 hours old), you won't see much luck unless you get the majority of your views from google (not YouTube) searches. If you have a catchy title, a good thumbnail and good description, tags won't actually do a whole lot for you. I've even messed around with using no tags on occasion after taking a few workshops at YouTube and I've seen no difference at all in the number of views received.

Has anyone had any luck by entering the transcript of your video into the close captioning area? I've heard that can increase your SEO by quite a bit, and that Google and YouTube actually index it. I did about half my videos yesterday but no change as of yet. I should really know over the next week or two.

I think I'm going to be in the practice of transcribing my videos regardless since it'll make them more accessible. It's a PITA but hopefully it'll help out in the long run.

Haha do you even know what scam means?, 2 weeks is not enough time I've been doing it for a while and it greatly increased my videos I got one from 80k views to 130k in around 2 months and all I did was change the tags/title It's simple you just got to do it right!
