Self Promotion

Self promoting to me is making your presence known in a personal/respectful manner. Actually connect with people to make them long-term subscribers. Be active on youtube and chat with people in comments on other videos. No one will come to you if you sit around and do nothing with yourself :P

I mean, I've commented on other peoples videos, but they were real comments. I've never gone out there and said "hey! Check out my channel!" Those people kinda annoy me. XD

To me the best self promotion is not self promotion at all. Basically what I mean is, you should go to other people's channels that are larger than your own but not TOO much larger, and try to befriend them, let them know you like what they do. Ask them if they have any tips for you. See if they wanna collab with you and just be available and real and nice. The WORST self promotion, the stuff channels do that make me want to burn their channel to the ground, is the copy paste messages that lie to people and tell them they watched when they didn't or act like they're a fan when they're not tagged with a "You should check me out I bet you'll love my stuff!!" This is a great way to get other vloggers to hate you LOL

And if you must kind of "spam" people, at the very least be up front about it. Just say "Hi I am a new channel and have trouble getting views could you take a look at my stuff?" Or go to a big channel and comment "Hi I'd really appreciate anyone reading this to take a look at my channel thank you" I don't encourage either of those things, but it's 10 times better than telling me "man your videos are awesome! I'm a big fan! You should check me out I make minecraft videos!" Yet I gained no sub, yet you didn't comment on my videos, that is a way to guarantee I will not only not watch your video, I'll mark you as spam.

So rude and so annoying!

My facebook profile/fan page/twitter/instagram/tumblr are all made just to promote my videos and photos lol. But since I cover conventions and events, I really end up promoting people I interview and feature anyways, so it looks slightly less spammy.

If someone posted on my videos a link to their channel, I would insta-delete. The only people I would help promote and share their stuff are friends and if they do the same kind of content as me, otherwise my audience wouldn't care anyways.

You're all right, self-promoting PM are kinda annoying. They don't bother me as long as I find the channel interesting, but... Most of the time, people try to advertise a channel with 3-4 s****y videos, or brag about "original content" as they only play Minecraft or Call of Duty. I should write somewhere that I hate these games so that no one will try to make me watch gameplays about them. It's only a matter of taste, though. I don't judge people playing this kind of game ;)

I don't do a lot of self-promoting. But I like to find interesting channels and regularly watch their videos, like their stuff, comment... I guess that I'm sometimes noticed for that and it gives me a surprise piece of extra views.

My favorite is when people are like "I upload every video in 1080 HD!!!" As if this is like "Whoa... you mean I can see you play minecraft in freaking TEN EIGHTY??? Well with that clarity I'm DEFINITELY gonna watch!!" hahahahahaha

I feel that to get exposure you Must self promote and not to the extent of spamming but joining a lot of social networking sites and linking them to youtube, e.g. -- According to youtube I actually get hardly any of my views from the youtube page I get 75% of my views from an external website the best one that seems to keep popping up is reddit. I think in order to grow you gotta get your video out everywhere even if people dont like your video you cannot please everyone :) Aslong as you enjoy making the videos who cares what other think. But yeah ultimately, self promote or you wont grow.

yeah man i dont see how people do that id get bored as hell doing it and really doesnt bring in any major results

When I self promote I will post on my Facebook wall, post on my Facebook fan page, send out a tweet, and if the video is a skit I bookmark it on StumbleUpon. I have posted a few things on Instagram (I'd love to start posting stuff as I make the video though, just to get pre-intigue.)

I've heard from a friend that is big into Reddit that self-promotion is really frowned upon in their forums. So I stay clear from there. For my first video ever I FB messaged a majority of my friends, just cause I wanted to show them my new channel, when I should've waited 'til I had some really good content up and running.

I just like adding hashtags to my tweets, I was told that putting #NewVideo is a great one as people like to look at new videos out.
