Removing background noise

Hey all!

I have just moved to Mexico, less than a month ago and the apartment I'm renting is a lot more noisy than my apartment back home. So I was really anxious if I was able to record good quality audio and I still am a little bit. My anxiety got so bad I started worrying that I might have to move back home which I really don't want to.

So, what are your best tips to get rid of background noise that doesn't involve moving countries? I'll start with what I've found on this forum and on YouTube.

- Isolate windows and doors with door sweeps and window inserts
- if you only do voice-over, record in a closet filled with clothes if the closet is big enough
- adjust the gain and other settings on your mic
- DIY a microphone isolation shield
- buy a microphone isolation shield
- use a desk stand and shock mount to reduce background from typing/touching the desk
- use filters in software like audacity or streamlabs or OBS
- buy a better microphone :)

what tips can you add so we can help each other out?
