Reduce Video Noise

Hey Guys!

I was just wondering if any of you had advice on how to reduce noise/grain in the video, so the visual side of things. I use Premiere Pro and in the past I've been advised to use the "Dust and Scratches" Effect, which does sometimes work. But this doesn't work all the time!

Does anyone have some useful tips?? :)

I would recommend doing the recording again if possible, it is really hard to remove all of the noise from videos and it may leave the sound not sounding that good. If you can't though Audition or Audacity (as Jawad said above) are the best programs to use to clear the sound up, audacity is free though so you may want to try that first.

Well, the important thing is to shoot somewhere with a lot of lighting (and unless you have a keen eye you won't be able to see noise)
Unfortunately most post processing denoisers require some form of purchase and you do end up losing some detail. The one I use is denoiser from magic bullet suites but I believe it's only available for adobe after effects.

Sorry! I meant visual wise, ie when there's low lighting!

Thanks :) Yeh I definitely avoid shooting in low lit places, but we've recently done a video where it was kind of unavoidable. To be honest, it might just be because I've worked with cameras and imagery for a while that I can tell more than others. But, it annoys me :P So, I'd rather it wasn't there! Ok I'll check that out too, yeh I don't expect there's any magical way of getting rid of noise without losing some detail :)

Thanks and it's all stuff I tend to avoid doing in general :) But like I said earlier, sometimes it's unavoidable and if you don't have the equipment to light the place up in an external location then it can be pretty annoying! :) I was just wondering if people had any other techniques to reduce noise in the editing process, than the one I knew :)
 
Wow can't believe I didn't notice that earlier lol, yeah when you are filming always aim to have that ISO as low as possible and have as much light in the scene as is available to you. Also try reducing the shutter speed and the F-Stop number by as much as possible as this will open up the sensor to outside light for longer and will open up the aperture so as much light can hit the sensor as possible. There is an After Effects plugin called neat video that should reduce noise a bit although it isn't free, don't know anything other than that though sorry :(.
 
There are some relatively cheap choices (but still not free) that you can check out. The best one for beginners as well as pros is called Neat Video. There's also a trial version ;)
