Recommended channels box.

I Love YTtalk
So this is one thing I don't get, I have tons of smaller channels asking me if we should add each other to our recommended channels box, or the "sub-box" as some people call it. However I don't really get it, the way I look at it there's 3 reasons why you would wanna add someone to that box.

Either 1: You're friends with them/you know them.
or 2: It's someone you respect/enjoy watching, and therefor you want to promote their content.
or 3: You both have a large following, and therefor you have decided to add each other for mutual benefits.

You also add linked channels such as secondary channels, network channels, but I decided not to mention them.

If people don't fit under any of theese categories, why do they keep bugging people about it? I mean I think less than 0,001% of a channels subscribers come from there.

It's just a way of swapping a bit of promo. There's a less than slim chance if you're in the box of someone with low subs, but on a large channel say 100k plus, you stand a small chance of being clicked on.

it's for promotion, that's all

the thing that annoys me is that they make you have the popular channels sub box on your channel otherwise if not enabled they say that your channel then won't be able to be recommended across youtube, but they only promote popular channels, hence the name above, so it's really silly!

Agreed. I am particular about who I put in my boxes. Many of the requests come from people who don't really put the time and effort into their videos and just want to ride on your coat tails. Thankfully, I don't get that many requests nowadays.

With the new layout throwing everything around, the box might as well say "Learn Braille here". I would never ever click on someone in the new other channels box, it doesn't stand out at all.
