Raising Screencast Video Tutorial Production Value: Can It Be Done?

Hey, folks.

I do screencasts and I'm always looking for ways that I can make my videos more edutaining without watering down or cutting out content.

When I started making videos, I kept the format as simple as possible. It really bugs me to have to wade through 15-30 seconds of intro filler before I can actually start getting instruction from a tutorial video, so I decided to do a 2 second title card that runs while my audio starts. The video runs, I do an outro, and then I cut and the video's over. I like the format, but I can't help but feel there has got to be something more I can do to improve the viewing experience and increase viewer engagement.

So, here's the question. How would you go about putting more polish on a tutorial while at the same time keeping it wachable? How would you improve the visual and auditory aesthetics of a video showing recorded software training and would I have to shave or put on a shirt to do it?
