So i have a samson CO1u mic and supposedly its an awesome microphone but whenever i record there is always some kind of back ground noise. no matter how quite my room may be there is always a blank static in the background. any advice on how to remove it? Should i just buy a new mic and an interface when i can?

Turning down the gain or using EQ in post to cut of the low end noise should help :)

So i'm not that great of an editor... what is eq? ALSO at the point of turning down gain, in recording devices, i have my levels set to 100 because other wise the mic is REALLY quite. Is that what you mean by gain?

In your audio editing program there's an effect you can to the audio track. The EQ is what you use to shape the sound. Most static sits in the low end so you can adjust it to cut out the low end, what audio program are you using? Also, if you turn down the gain on the mic and then double the audio in editing, it'll make it louder without adding in unwanted noise. That's how I do audio in our videos :)

hmmmmm I may try that. What would you suggest as a good base level for my mic in recording? ALSO i use audacity mainly. I'm looking into getting premier pro as well. Right now i just use audacity and movie maker lol.

Ummm, depends on how you are monitoring the audio. If you have audacity up while recording, make sure you aren't clipping the audio and before you start so talk as loud as you're going too and see if it clips and then be quiet and see if there's a visual hum on the audio track.

You can import the Audio file into AUDACITY and remove the background noise. You can also use ADOBE AUDITION to remove noise.
