Question About Commentary

Hello everyone. Just have a quick question to ask you guys about monetizing gameplay videos using annotations. Can I monetize my gameplay videos on Youtube by using annotations as commentary, instead of audio commentary? Or do you have to use audio commentary?

Honestly, nobody is going to want to read annotations as commentary. It's going to hurt your views and the quality of your videos. You should get comfortable speaking if you're going to do commentary of any sort.

It can also cause you copyright issues since the audio will still be the one from the game, different from when you commentated over it with your voice/audio

In my opinion i say that audio commentary is better, because it's more fun ._.
You can joke around and such making it more lively !
People like better audio over annotations commentary.
And using annotations will hurt you channel ( view ) ._.
Compare to Audio commentary which can give a wonderful outcome ! :)

Always use commentary when you can, it falls under fair use. But always double check the terms and conditions from the publishers/developers on their websites. If they don't have any contact them. I almost recorded an early access demo for Beyond Two Souls to do a first impressions type video. I emailed Quantic Dream to be sure, turns out they don't even allow you to do videos that aren't commercialised. Dodged a bullet there O.O.

That's crazy stuff Andrew. Yes, it seems best to contact the company to see if you can even monetize their games. I really do appreciate the answers and I will start doing commentary :).

Yeah, as far as I am aware, audio commentary is the much preffered method, and this is speaking from an end user perspective - I would much rather hear you speak than read your commentary
