Quantity vs Promotion

Which strategy is better to get more views on youtube, producing large number of videos or fewer videos with lots of promotion on forums , blogs etc .. ?

TBH, you can post as many videos and advertise on as many platforms as you want. But if the product is not good then its a wasted effort.

If you make sure the content you are putting out is the best YOU can make it, then the rest should fall into place.

There is no one or the other but a good combination of both.

But the problem is that even the content is of high quality, but it doesn't appear at the top 10 of the relevant search keywords it has no chance of getting views

Good point, unless the product is important to you regardless what it is to others.
It probably depends what you are trying to achieve, I think majority of beginning YouTubers should select a topic that they are very passionate about &or a topic that helps them achieve certain goals in life, like a job, promotion, respect or popularity, just to name a few. Reason for that is most new channels will not become big or financially beneficial any time soon. I only got to 250 subs in 5 years which is a good example, but that doesn't bother me as the topic is of high passion & helps me achieve several important goals in life.

Yes that's exactly the problem that i am suffering from nowadays; to make money from something that i love, i though if i do something that i am passionate i will be more successful in generating income quickly, but seems that doesn't work well, the reason (i guess) is the though competition, by the time i my gaming channel starts generating money either from youtube ads or affiliate links i will be death or very old, therefore i must seek other ways to generating income and put my passions aside.

A good point but not the one I was making. I was hinting more towards poor effort put into video production. Regardless of the content, if there is a community out there and you have put the effort in to make the video you can at that moment in time, then people will notice. Just recording and posting an unedited raw video is not good enough anymore.
