PC overheated- New fan

I just installed a new cpu fan(ARCTIC Freezer Xtreme Rev. 2 CPU Cooler) because my old stock fan was way too loud and ruined my recordings. When I first installed it I loved it. I could barely hear it and it cooled my CPU all the way down to 16 degrees Celsius(better than the stock fan ever did). I had just bought Battlefield 4 as well, so I began playing it for the first time. I was about an hour into the campaign when my computer cut off unexpectedly. This has never happened to me so I kind of freaked out. Luckily it still works, but I'm afraid to play any games until I know why it overheated with such a nice fan and how to fix it. Does anyone know what could have gone wrong?[DOUBLEPOST=1397886230,1397885936][/DOUBLEPOST]Update: Right now the computer is sitting on idle and the temperature is 26 degrees Celsius, still better than the stock fan which averaged 39 on idle.
Now perhaps it might seem like a silly question because you didn't change much, but i used to get my pc overheat occasionally, but i placed balsa wood under the case, because the case was sunken into my carpet a little and the psu couldn't exhaust out the bottom of the case. This fixed the problem, and maybe the same with you?

Its on a solid wood surface. I believe I've found the problem.... the way the fan is designed, it requires you to take the fan out of the fins to screw it in place. When I put the fan in, I put it in a direction that made it blow towards the optical drive(i.e. no holes for good ventilation). I turned the fan around towards the holes and now it runs XCOM Enemy Unknown(my test game) at 35 C at its most CPU intensive stage as opposed to the 55+ C I was getting last night. Please tell me that this was the problem and that I can now run all games smoothly despite my silliness.
