Not sure what to do now =\

I Love YTtalk
In short, I can't keep making content on Youtube. At least, not the same kind I did for the last year.

Let me try to explain what's happened (and also why I disappeared from this forum for a while); my last living situation was pretty ideal for what I wanted to do, we had a lot of space in the front of the house to work on cars etc...

Well, we had a 3rd roommate to cover the costs of renting a house (who never showed up on camera for the channel because he's shy). Eventually he wanted to move out to live on his own, which was fine with us. He left mid-June, and we looked EVERYWHERE to try to get a similar house or somewhere with space to keep doing Youtube, but we got denied by every place we looked at. After being pretty much homeless for the month of July, we finally just settled on getting a small, crappy apartment. So now I'm locked into a year contract to rent this place and I'm not allowed to work on cars here at all...

Soo I'm at a loss. What do I do? I don't really want to turn my channel into something else, and I especially don't want to stop making this kind of content, but I'm stuck here not being allowed now.

Any advice or commiseration would be welcome and appreciated :)

Geez that sucks. Sorry that happened to you. The best i can say is there a place close that you can work on cars? If so you could make videos on cars there. If not sorry. That's really the best advice i got but hopefully it can help. Sorry about what happened.

You could begin doing car reviews and such until the situation gets better. I'd leave a message to your fans, letting them know the situation, and you can begin doing other things related to automobiles until the situation gets better.

Yep, really sucks. I was looking around for a private lot or something where I could do work, but I live in LA, so the second you mention filming anything people assume it's a Hollywood production and you have money to pay them. Otherwise, people are straight up terrified of anyone leaving a small oil stain or anything on their property so they straight-up say NO. I'm gonna keep looking but it seems like I probably won't find anything that suits my needs like that...

I was trying to stay away from stuff like 'reviews' that literally every single other 'car youtuber' does. I find the format to be pretty uninspired, and I rather liked that there is literally no one else on Youtube making content quite like mine...

But you might be right, I might have to change directions with my content. I'm going to have to figure out the tone and how I want to present something like that, though. I definitely don't want to just do a static camera sitting in a car while I talk about it. It's so boring.

Maybe go around and ask people if they want to show off their ride. I mean, make a series about normal people and their rides. There
are a lot of stuff you can do.

Ah LA. Even though i want to do filmmaking, that just really stereotypical to assume that your making a movie(unless you consider making a video kinda like a movie). Best to luck that you find a place to make videos.

Yea, I've been kicking around an idea like that for a while, even before all this crap happened to me. Interviewing owners of interesting cars would be really cool. There's a few barriers, though, like my channel isn't big enough for people to care. No one is going to seek me out to interview them about their car (which would be ideal instead of me reaching out to people and getting rejected all the time) and the people I do interview will probably be pretty disappointed if their video gets 20 views like some of my videos do. Also, some people just aren't good on camera, or get nervous or awkward, and that would be horrible to deal with.

It's worth thinking about if I can find a way to do it right, though.

Do you have a friend that would be willing to let you do what you were doing before at their house possibly?

Nah, no one that I can really think of. I have almost no friends who are into cars, and even less who have enough space for me to do anything, unfortunately.

Thanks, bud :)

Yeah I can definitely see where the problems lie. I say do what you can for now. Don't stop making content, but don't just do something to do it.

You surely started making content centred around working on cars because it's something you like doing. Maybe start there? Make a list of s**t you like and see if any of them can be used as a video idea?
