I've kept the design close to the center-pane, mainly so it makes sense to those without widescreen ..good or bad idea?

Cheers, help me out - I don't entirely understand what you mean about being more symmetrical, maybe the same reflection of content on the left/right sides? let me know how you mean.
And good point about it taking too much attention away, I'll dumb down the loudness of it, remove some of the attention it grabs, thanks.
