Need Help Changing My Channel's Focus

My channel has just hit over 700,000 total views. I'll hit 1 million before the spring is over. I'm getting over 100,000 views per month. However, here's my main concern.

All of my biggest hits are guides. These guides are relevant, but then become irrelevant a few months later due to the game changing.

This plays out like this:
- Release guide
- Guide ends up getting 2,000+ views per day
- Content in game changes
- Guide dwindles down to around 0 views per day after a few weeks

For example...I had a guide just a few weeks ago that got up to 23,000 views at a rate of 1,000-1,500 views per day. Content changed and boom, it dropped down to 100 views per day.

I realllllly hate this because it means I have to constantly release new guides and can't rely on old guides for views or new subscribers at all. I understand this is the pace of the game and that I should always have to work on my channel - That said, I want to be creating content that lasts, not content that is a huge hit and then disappears a few months later.

I REALLY want to start focusing on content that revolves around my personal gameplay and endeavors in the game instead of just guides.

Here's the problem.
95% of my views are from search results, not subscribers.
97% of my views are from suggested videos, not clicks on my channel.

My best video got 165,000 views and I spent no time at all on it (literally less than an hour). One of the videos I spent the most time on has 491 views. Why? Because my best video is a guide that answers what people are searching for.

I need some encouragement & suggestions on how I should go about promoting my personal endeavors in the game so that I can gain subs that are fans of ME instead of subs that are fans of my guides. It's sad that when I upload a video that isn't a guide or something absolutely crazy in the game, it is lucky to get a couple hundred views.

I'd say combine what you love into your guides, or just bite the bullet and do the guides once n' awhile. While it's nice to be known for a certain thing, it can leave behind a stigma that's unwanted, and makes you feel like your subscribers aren't there for you, just for what you have to offer them. Though, if you think about it, that's true with any YouTuber. You offer entertainment to people, and if they enjoy it, they keep coming back. Change things up and see where it goes, if it starts to dip, go back, and think on it again. Grab inspiration from whatever you can, and really make it your own.

Yeah I've been trying to integrate personal videos in, but it's tiring when I see a video I really thought about and put time into get 50-200 views and a video I threw together on a whim in under an hour get thousands upon thousands.
Obviously I've already said that, but it's been driving me nuts.

I guess you all are right. I'll focus on what I enjoy creating and if I need to make some guides to meet the bottom line I will. It's not even really a pain to make the guides. I DO enjoy making them and I love seeing them received so well from the viewers.

When it comes down to it, it's what makes you happiest that matters most.

I'll admit I'm in it for the money. I probably wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for the cash. I love making videos, but if I couldn't make money off of WoW videos, I'd make different videos. It's sad, but true. I have a lot of passion for my channel, and passion for a lot of things, but part of that is getting a paycheck at the end.

On a side note I work 2 jobs outside of the internet and bring in $2,400 a month from that so even though I'm in it for the money, if I make less or more than the previous month from YouTube it doesn't really change my feelings.

I have a similar issue. My most successful video literally took 10 minutes to shoot and edit. The stuff I've spent days/weeks editing gets no love, but I do NOT want to make more stupid/simple content like the one that did well. I don't have nearly the subs/views you do though.

You should consider yourself lucky that people even search for your content lol... I never get views from search ever.

Anyway, as far as your content goes, you should just start from scratch in terms of promotion. Start making the content you want to make, and start advertizing that to people who will come and stay for your gameplay, as opposed to searching for guides. You already have a HUGE advantage because your channel already looks 'legit' (lots of views and subs) so people will be more willing to sub and stick around.

Anyway, hope you figure it out!
