Under $100
1. Sony Movie Studio
2. Power Director
3. Adobe Premiere Elements 13

Expensive
1. Final Cut Pro (for macs only)
2. Adobe Creative Cloud (including all kinds of software including photoshop, after effects and more)
If you are a student then you can get the whole adobe suite for $20 a month, regularly $50 a month.

I have not tried all the software I listed I have just heard good things after reading about them on yttalk, but I know most of them offer a free 30 day trail, so you can try a few and see which ones you like. I currently use adobe Premiere Elements 12 but I just downloaded a free trial of power director so I can try something different. And with any software don't forget to look for student discount options if you are a student.

For photos you could try picmonkey.com it is really easy to use but it isn't professional or anything. Photoshop seems to be what everyone uses nowadays. You can get it for $10 a month separate or as part of the creative cloud (see above). Or if you don't want that you can buy Photoshop elements for under $100 which doesn't have as many features.

This :)

But I would say movie studio is pretty good one to use from personal usage but it all depends on how much you want to spend on it :)

I use Cyberlink Powerdirector Directors Suite 11... If you are a student you get a nice discount. Check out my signature video, it's a good example of a high quality video. If your computer is not powerful it may be a bit much though, try the demo first

Sony Vegas is one of my favourites it was confusing to use at first but you will eventually learn how to use it the more you edit your videos

I had vegas like two years ago and loved it and I learned how to use it pretty good but it wasnt "Legit"

If you are a student, or not, investing in the Adobe Creative Suite is a very good investment. You will not have to worry about anything from then on cos it has photo, music, video and special effects editing capabilities.
