Mic for both singing and voice

I've been looking through the forums for a microphone, but it seems like most of these suggestions are for game commentators. I have looked through reviews for the Blue Yeti and the AT2020 and they seem very nice for recording straight up voice, but would they be recommended for singing? I'm trying to get a sort of all-in-one solution because I can't afford two mics...

My preference for singing audio has always been the Shure SM58. The AT2020 will certainly do the job but I'm not sold on condensers being the ideal mics for singing. The only problem is that you're stuck with condensers if you're going to also stick to USB microphones. You have limited options in the Blue Snowball(trash), Yeti (good but overpriced), Samson C01U (well priced USB mic), AT2020 (USB model is expensive compared to XLR) and a few other lesser known USB mics. If you make the jump to professional recording mics (XLR interface) then your options open way up. You'll need an audio interface, just search XLR USB audio interface on Amazon and you should be able to find one for around $50.

From there you have far more variety in microphones. Shure mics are my favorite, and they have a wide range of prices as well. SM48 for around $50, PG48 for around $60, SM58 for $100.

How does the SM58 work in terms of quality for voice overs/commentary type things?

Microphones are a lot like musical instruments in that your preference for your sound is very subjective. Every microphone colors your sound in a way different to other mics. Do a search for SM58 comparisons on YouTube to hear what it sounds like. The SM58 is designed primarily as a vocal mic and is used in huge budget live concert performances and handles spoken word just fine IMO.[DOUBLEPOST=1395703159,1395675883][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh, as a little addition this just hit my facebook feed. Shure SM58.

I personally prefer the Blue Yeti because of all the good experiences I've had with Blue products.
All of the VA friends that I have use one for all their recordings and songs which is why I think it's probably your best option for the price. If you're going for something just under that, try a Blue Snowball, it's what I use to record lines, though make sure not to get the ICE version.

Hope you love the thing! I'm kinda jealous since my budget stopped at the Snowball xD

Should totz keep me updated on how it works out for you and if you like it! ^-^

Well since we are talking about the Blue Yeti, I love it. I've tried out singing and just general conversation and I love the clear and crisp sound. I'm certain, as long as you aren't planning on going into pro grade stuff, it will certainly do whatever you wish it to do. Unless you really are planning into having a very deep bass sound, you're pretty well set, because you loose a very small part on the bass function for clarity; but even for instrumental recordings, I have nothing to complain about. :) Hope it helps you!

Hey, since you have a Blue Yeti, are you having the same problem as me? My mic is so super loud. Like gain all the way down, input volume all the way down and it's still loud loud...
