Maker Studios Sold to Disney for 500 Million

My daughter (7 year old) is using YouTube mainly to watch Disney shows (and from time to time something else). So YouTube has a great potential for Disney. On the other hand for us it means even greater competition as there will be new Disney shows specially designed for YouTube audience. In long term I think it is rather good than bad as it may increase the overall quality of content on YouTube but we shall see.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future with Youtube and companies focused on TV. I hope it will change for the better not the worse/

Doesn't Shay Carl have something to do with maker studios?.. also why does everyone hate Disney again?
Shay Carl is one of the co-founders of Maker Studios (or The Station, as it was called when it started), I'm not too sure what he does on a day to day basis with them but I do know that he works/stops by their office. Not sure why people hate Disney, I've never had a problem with them (I may be biased because I am just down the road from them) and I honestly think this will bring nothing but good things for both Maker and Disney (I really hope that Disney allows their [Maker] partner to create/use Disney music in their videos).[DOUBLEPOST=1395840466,1395839934][/DOUBLEPOST]
I told myself that I would never work for Disney, I've been cornered here facing a fatal decision: try to get out of RPM or work knowing I've ultimately got pwned by Walt. You all may be saying dude it's not going to be much different, but yeah still don't want to be under Disney, just because it sounds weird.
You need to understand that there will not be any major changes, RPM partners may not even see any differences. This acquisition will probably mirror what has happened over at AwesomenessTV when they were acquired by Dreamworks (aka advertising their upcoming projects to a much larger and more targeted audience).

Also, you don't need to tell people that you are a Disney Partner, that is silly. Maker Studios (and their verticals) will not changing their name, you are and always will be (as long as you are with them) a RPM partner.[DOUBLEPOST=1395840770][/DOUBLEPOST]
I reckon Pixar & WB might be next to hop on the YouTube train.
Pixar is a division of the Walt Disney Company, they won't have a need for a new network (since they have Maker now). Also, Warner Bros is already investing in Machinima, I am sure that an acquisition is soon (especially in light of the Maker/Disney acquisition) joystiq . com/2014/03/12/warner-bros-invests-18-million-in-machinima/

Oh that's right! My bad they did buy Pixar some good few years ago, I completely forgot about that. I guess if WB buys Machinima, it might actually become a better network lol

I doubt it, with these network acquisitions they will most likely not have any effect on the network itself, but rather the networks in-house content (Dreamworks has had practically no effect on AwesomenessTV's partners). Hopefully if Machinima is acquired, then it distribute WB created/produced video series (think back to what they did for Microsoft with the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn series).

Oh yeah, it would be pretty cool to see some short DC YouTube series'. That kind of sucks though, I'd have thought investing more moneyt into a company would allow it to function better.

If anyone's interested, I made a video about this very topic. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the video here so I'll just invite you to check it out on my channel.

It's titled, "Disney Bought Maker Studios and I am p****d!"

I am partnered with Polaris which is apart of the maker network. I've been assured this will not make anything different. The only change is that because they now have backing by such a large company, there will likely be more opportunities for maker partners to make revenue from means other then just ad revenue. Totally optional.

That's really good to hear. I hope it stays that way, and I'd hope it gives more opportunities for them.

I think as an amusement to celebrate the purchase, everyone who's a part of Polaris should become a playable character in Disney Infinity xD

This is cool and all but I really don't see how it helps out the channels. If it doesn't than I just think it's wasted money. But that's my opinion ofcourse.
