Make subscription box visible or not? If under 1000 subs

Hiroto

I've Got It
So, I was wondering if you should make your subscription box or like how many subscribers you have visible to the viewers. Especially if you have under 1000 subs or even 100 if might make people click away from you video? Thanks bros

It's always good to show it. People might think you have something to hide, if you don't. Also the road to 1000 is really long, and once you get a few hundred, I think it would move faster if people saw the sub count and felt like they were getting in On something early

I tried if for few weeks, didn't see any difference in subs. Do it if you want, nothing bad will happen.

This is one of the most ridiculous myths I read here, on yttalk.
People might think you have something to hide? Really?

This is the kind of bs that only an obsessive small youtuber can come up with.
In real life nobody cares.

You can't speak for everyone. I never subscribe to a channel that hide's its subscribers list, and I've seen enough people say the same thing. There's just something really sketchy about channels that do that.

I'm speaking for regular people who use youtube.
You are not a good example because you're a youtuber.
If the hidden subscriber count is your only reason to not subscibe to a channel...that's silly beyond belief.

If a lot of people act like parrots and say the same thing, it doesn't make it correct.

The amount of people wanting to join networks would indicate that it's a great idea, right?

A lot of youtubers do sub4sub, great idea?

A lot of people say that uploading daily is great idea...is it?

People say to make videos on trending topics to gather views, is it a good idea in the long run?

It's not just me. I've asked many people who aren't Youtubers. There's many who will factor that in when deciding to subscribe. It's not to say that some of them would never subscribe to a channel who is hiding their subscriber count, but that's it's something that makes them wonder. If you study the 25-30 common cognitive biases of human beings, one of them is the uncertainty bias. It's like would you buy something online through ebay or amazon with the seller hiding his reviews and how many sales? There's many people who don't like not knowing things. And you could also even include the authority bias, and that some people associate the authority of a channel based on its sub count. So if someone is hiding it, it can make some people question the status of that channel. And then there's also the bias of following the crowd. If you see 10 people in the middle of the street suddenly look up, you'll probably look up. Or listen to those laugh tracks in sit coms. People are more likely to laugh when they hear them. Not everyone falls for each bias, but they are very real when making a decision. And we live in a day of age where we judge people's popularity based on facebook friend count, instagram/twitter follower count, so it's not just Youtubers with this mentality.

Hidden subscriber makes them wonder about what exactly? If the content is good, what kind of fishy business would go on with a youtube channel?

Maybe this is a problem among teens/children, i don't know.
To me it seems that grown ups just don't care about this kind of silliness.

Ahh, well there you go. I'm not sure how old you are, but perhaps you just didn't grow up in the social media age. I'm pretty sure my older brothers and parents don't care about friend or subscriber counts either. This is why I often talk to my younger cousins to keep up to date with how the young generation thinks. What can be fishy about hiding your count? Well the most obvious ones are the channels giving Youtube advice on how to grow. That's like entrepreneurs giving financial advice but don't have any proof their advice works. Then there's channels that get millions of views but very low sub counts and I find these sketchy. When someone hides their sub counts, I don't know if they fall under this category which makes me lose trust in them. But it's probably the same reason people naturally create stereotypes, because it saves people time. I see a channel with a low sub count, my initial assumption is that this channel is new or not popular and probably won't provide the value I can get from other channels. Like I said people like following the crowd. This is one of the reasons many channels start having exponential growth once they hit high sub counts, even without improvement in their content quality.
