Low budget HD cameras ? Canon Ixus range ?

Crown

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hi

I am looking for a low budget HD camera for YouTube and would welcome any input.

What it'll be used for:

1) Filming me talking (indoors) before a lesson, an occasional vlog, in other words a webcam sort of use.
2) Outside, filming the outside world in a POV kind of situation or just generally filming what's going on. I'll use that for some of my vocabulary lessons. 90% of the time, this would daytime.

What is important for me
1)Best video quality for the money. It needs to be at least 720p HD - Obviously 1080p would be nice too, but if that means sacrificing 720p quality, then 1080p isn't essential. I am guessing the more FPS, the better? So I suppose at least 30FPS in 720p would be good? What do I need to look for in terms of features? What sensor size? Number of pixels ?

2)The ability to use the optical zoom during filming. My current camera doesn't allow this and it's a PITA :(

3)I don't like touch screens and they seem to add to the cost anyway.

4)Again, I am after video quality on a tight budget, so I am not bothered about bells and whistles like WIFI, but obv they would be a bonus and not a deal breaker.

My initial research has brought up the following options:

CANON IXUS 127 HS - 107 Euros (£90 / $142)

What do you think? What other options from other makes do I have?

(My budget is 130 Euros / 170 USD / 108 GBP)

TIA

The camera you've listed seems pretty good to me, just saw a video test on YouTube.
Another thing I'd maybe recommend s maybe skimming Craigslist or the local equivalent, you can find pretty amazing deals on there.
Another thing, make sure you are properly lit when speaking indoors, it makes a whole lot of difference!

My all time favorite pocket camera is the Canon ELPH 300hs. They quit making it but you can find them used still. They are really cheap. Shoot 1080p. The audio isn't bad and they even shoot slow motion shots! On my vlog channel I'm currently using the newer model Canon ELPH 520hs. But I don't like it nearly as much. It's still not bad though.

Thanks, yeah the IXUS is the European name for the ELPH range. The Ixus 127 I mentioned in the OP = ELPH 110 HS and I think it's the one I'm going to get because it seems to be the best for the price.

ah gotcha, I had no clue. Have you looked into the 300hs by chance? It's still my favorite xD

Thanks, yeah that's a good price, but shipping + import duty etc makes it a similar price to what I can find in Europe. I've found a few reputable sellers on ebay uk who seem to have one of these to sell every now and again so I'll keep my eyes out.

Thanks again and I'll let you know what I go for :)

Awesome man! If you get something else i'd like to see some test footage xD

Hey @DioniteFilms

Just an update - I have just ordered a refurbished Canon ELPH 300hs (marketed as the Canon IXUS 220HS in Europe) from a reputable German professional seller on Ebay with 100% positive feedback. He was selling it for 145 Euros including shipping, but he accepted my best offer of €135

It was the 30 fps in full HD which tipped the balance I think, plus all the positive reviews including yours. For the same price, I couldn't find anything with specs or reviews as good as this camera, so I went for this one.

Anyway I just wanted to thank you :) I can't wait for it to be delivered now - I'm like a kid waiting for Father Christmas lol ;)
