Losing friends over your Youtube?

I have had people come up to me and say in a sarcastic tone that they know that I make videos & have tried to put me down, but at the end of the day, its your passion & you should do what makes you happy (as cheesy as it sounds its true & you only have one shot at life, so make the most out of it) :)

Ive never been in that situation, but that's awful you have. I can see someone maybe not getting it, but issuing an ultimatum seems a bit dramatic!

When we were in high school, we were all a bit dramatic! Lol, looking back, it understandable she wanted the typical high school love story, and I wasn't available xD[DOUBLEPOST=1479649514,1479649374][/DOUBLEPOST]

I relate to this so much! I had people unsuccessfully try to "pick on" me, it even happened when I was home from the Army xD Then they find out I'm an Infantryman in the Army and it stops LOL

Have you guys ever been put in the situation of having to choose your youtube channel over an unsupportive friend? Let me explain.

Once upon a time, young RodakTV was dating a girl who could not understand why I made youtube videos. She thought it was a waste of time, time that could be spent with her. Long story short, I had an ultimatum, continue making videos for the extremely small audience I had with dreams of becoming a larger youtuber, or continue dating this girl.

Let's just say, I'm still making youtube videos :p

Have any of you ever been put into the situation of making a similar choice? Or even just stop talking to friends who weren't supportive?
commitment
Sounds silly as most of us are small youtubers.

Share the story if you have :)
in a way i try and avoid my channel with my friends as they dot understand the hard work and put in to it

Youtube hasn't really affected my personal life. I think mostly because I haven't made vlog type videos so it doesn't involve my friends. Since I've become more open about my channel, my friends have been supportive with a small tease here and there, but overall good criticism.

I think if someone decides to not be your friend because of something that makes you happy, which doesn't affect them in any way, then they aren't a true friend and you don't need them around. :) Keep only people who uplift you and encourage you to follow your dreams. Those are the friends who are worth the most.

There will obviously be a lot of people that disagree with things that you think will work. Or if they are jealous, or they wouldn't recommend it they will go against it. Just don't listen to them, brush it right off. Because you taking the opinion of others can go against your true dream, keep doing you and grinding and it'll pay off.

Really?! Wow.. I'm so glad I'm not alone but at the same time its sad that people have the energy to pick on someone they don't even know

If you have 'friends' around you who don't support what you do and your choices in life then you need to take a step back and re-evaluate what the term 'friend' means to you.

Someone who will put you down or deter you away from your dream or your passion isn't a friend at all, full stop.

In your case with a girl its a little different, but at the same time the same principals apply.

If a girl your dating can't fully support you on your goals or your dreams and help you towards them whether it be giving you time to make your videos or even helping out with the process, then you two need to have a sit down and talk.

I am very lucky to have a girl who not only understands what I do but respects what I do and knows that this stuff takes time and effort, yeah she found it a little odd at the start but because she loves me for who I am she continues to support my ambitions.
