Looking Back! *Deep Thread*

*DEEP THREAD ALERT ;) *

A few minutes ago, I went onto my profile here and noticed a status I made back in July:

"Can't seem to pass 180 subs, every time I get there I lose a few more and go back down. I cry evrytim :'("

Don't worry I know how to spell, but the fact is when I made this status, I was having a real bad time. My YT seemed to be going nowhere and I was ready to stop. Even though its something I love to do, the sheer competition with gaming channels was overpowering. Looking at the bigger channels and thinking, I'm talking to myself here and spending hours daily without anything to show for it.

But what I hadn't done was something profound my grandma once told me the last time I saw her before she passed. The night before she told me that no matter what, I can always look backwards and see how much I have accomplished. Its something that stuck with me for a long time, and something I should never have put aside. So when those stormy waves come, you can sit there and look back. See how much you have done in your life and realise how far you've come.

As I read that status, I realised this can be applied to YouTube aswell. Take a moment and browse your channel. Look back at what you have created thus far, the videos you've made, the people who have joined you on that journey, the experiences you've had. Whether you have a single video and subscriber or thousands of both, thats something you've achieved/created and you have to be proud of that.
  • See every view as someone worldwide, giving there time to watch a video of yours.
  • Every like as someone who appreciated that video, what it stood for/how it affected them and realise you made someone happy.
  • Every subscriber as someone who wants to share that journey with YOU, not just a username, but the person behind that name.
You created all this, and as you look back you'll be able to see exactly how much you have accomplished. The creativity you've shared, the people you've met and the people who have found some happiness from a video, keep that with you always.

Now back to that status, last month I should have remembered that and I nearly dropped something I love. Since then I've nearly doubled my subscriber count in a month and the thought of all those people, finding something in my videos that warrants their time is such a great feeling. So as I sit here and read these threads of "I'm not growing" "Might quit"..

Take the time and look back :)

Nice post, On a much smaller scale I'm going through the issue you had at 180 subs.
I'm on 33 subs and youtube says I've lost 4 subs over the past few days and on the same days gained 3 subs.
although i can say that i only lost inactive subscribers and potentially gained active ones it still sucks :/,,

but looking at your thread I can lookback and see that like 90% of my total views have been in the last 30 days and I've gotten 25 subscribers in the last 30 days ( or got 29 and lost 4).

thanks :)

I do this every now and again as well to assure myself that I am doing good ^-^
Great post, I hope this helps others as well to put a bit of perspective into what their doing and to inspire them to continue and keep trying :D

Great post. Sometimes I go back and watch my horribly awkward first video and think, wow, I though that was GREAT when I first posted it. But now my standards and ability have both grown so much since then.

You really do have a good view on it and i was only thinking of this yesterday.

I have 44 subscribers so i was sat in my car and realised i couldnt fit 44 people in my car and i cant imagine 44 people being there with me but they subscribed because they like the content i provide. 44 people may not seem like much but imagine them stood with you.

Now i think about my view and it really amazes me that im nearly at 6000 views and i cannot even imagine 6000 people stood with me. Its a crazy thought and im thankful to every person because it puts a smile on my face even when im having the hardest times!

I tend to do that with my Twitter follower amount :')
The population of my town is 2,000... I have double the population of my town that follows me on a social networking site, it just blows my mind thinking off stuff like that :')

I completely agree with you, I had a slow growth at 50, now I'm pushing 80 but in time I will regain momentum. It's all about patience.

When i look back, i use Wayback Machine and look at my now non-existant 2006 channel. Oh good times, how much I have improved since then. I have way more experience now.
