Link Shorteners

BrenyBeast

I've Got It
So recently i've wanted to clean up my description with some shortened links, using the site bit.ly (also allow me to monitor how often they're used) But I remember someone told me ages ago that some link shortening sites are against the YouTube guidelines, does anyone know if this is true or have any more information on the subject?

Just putting on protection before i change ALL of my descriptions.

Thank you,

I seen some really big YouTubers using bit.ly, but they're in managed networks and you don't seem to be in a network.[DOUBLEPOST=1405397747,1405397548][/DOUBLEPOST]VanossGaming uses it, you obviously know who he is, and he doesn't have problems with it.[DOUBLEPOST=1405397877][/DOUBLEPOST]I wouldn't take the risk, YouTube may terminate your account for violation of TOS.

I hardly did a scan through, and did a ctrl + f for the word link, but I didn't find anything that says you can't shorten links.

I only ever use them on Twitter since you dont have much space to type. I wouldnt use them elsewhere, many people dont trust them and I dont myself a lot of the time.

Sometimes I just use tinyurls, and I make sure people know it's for very specific sites. I think the only time I use it is for linking to other networkers/collaborators like myself, giving credit to their youtube channel.

Link shorteners aren't against the TOS, just Adfly (and other ad-based link shorteners) like Sinc mentioned.

I rarely use link shorteners or click on shortened links. I'm paranoid and think I will get a virus lol.
Although I started using the google link shortener a while ago.

A lot of people here are giving assumptions that are wrong, YouTube actually encourages URL shorteners. Take a quick look at the creator playbook or join one of the periodical online workshop things they offer. YouTube likes uncluttered clean descriptions. The only reason I don't is because they look kinda suspicious and could lead elsewhere.
