Editing is a lot harder than most people would think. it took me a 3 hours to edit a 20 minute Garry's mod funny moments video. but everybody gets better from experience. like me i'm still sorta a noob at it but i think i can edit some stuff Farley well now from doing it for a couple of months. i like watch other peoples videos to see how they edit it, to give me ideas on how i could edit my own. plus i like to just see how others edit because it is cool to see what somebody else imagination is like :)
 
I completely understand where you're coming from editing is a pain when you first start out, but practice makes perfect!
 
Be lucky you don't have to spend 10+ hours editing each 5 minute video like me under a time crunch.
That will make your hair fall out... -_-
 
Depending on the video it takes me from 6 to 10 hours to edit a 5 mins video. It helps to learn shortcuts early on otherwise your like me and use the mouse for 80% of my work.
