Issues with Blue Yeti

Hello there, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a recurring problem that has been happening.

I use a Blue Yeti for recording commentary. It's great, very clear and all that sort of stuff. But then it is picking up background sounds such as me using the keyboard. Which is really frustrating me. At first, I realised I had been using the wrong setting. But even after changing it remains the same.

Before you ask, I have my microphone set on the Cardioid setting and it is positioned in front of the keyboard. But it still picks it up as the slightest of sound. Any ideas anyone?

Turn your gain down, move it away from things like the keyboard (or get a quieter keyboard), buy one of those pop screens, which helps remove breathing noises etc. You need it set to unidirectional rather than omnidirectional. I don't know what the settings are called within the Yeti but the direction of the pickup needs to be more focused rather than all round.

I am using unidirectional, that's what I don't get, Cardioid is supposed to be just infront. I'm planning on buying a pop filter. It's the furthest distance I can have too from my keyboard. Think I may need to just buy a quieter keyboard. Had this current one for a while and its slim so all the keys are close together so they rattle. Most likely the cause.
 
I have a Snowball with a -10dB cardioid setting. I thought the Yeti has that too? Because my mouse is EXTRA loud but with -10dB you can't hear it at all.
 
Ok so I checked blue's site, and the Yeti doesn't have -10dB, so whatcha probably should do is look up a quick tutorial on how to lower the mic's gain. You'll have no problems after that.
 
They Yeti doesn't have a -10dB switch, but it does have a gain knob in the back for this purpose.
 
I know it has the dial. But I've messed around with it so much with little success it just annoys me. I think my keyboard is just too loud.
 
Assuming you're recording at the computer, it's going to be difficult for your keyboard not to be heard over the microphone. You'll have to deal with this by adjusting the microphone extremely close to your face, your gain down, cardioid, etc. Even then keystroke sounds will probably end up being heard unless you try to remove the noise manually, which will be a long process. If you have a boom stand you could probably get away with it more, but from what I know Yeti microphones aren't compatible with most stands or shock mounts (correct me if I'm wrong).
 
It is most likely due to keyboard. The keys are damn loud, they are not under 10db for sure. Anyone recommend a good, quiet keyboard? haha :giggle:

yeah your kind of right cause it has its own stand which makes it kind of annoying to move around.
