Is Vimeo a good Youtube alternate?

I've seen a lot of educational videos on Vimeo, not sure how good they are for exposure, but I have seen their videos around, so people do use it.

It's a preference. I'd get way more into it, but my keyboard is making me angry.

Basically, use vimeo if you don't upload too often and want a bit less competition, while having a smaller potential audience.

That's.... kinda what my Video Game Masters show has now.... lol

You may not upload captures of video games or gameplay, even if edited. Machinima videos with a story are allowed, but must be labeled as such in the video description to avoid accidental deletion.

I wonder if that applies to my show?

I posted my Harlem shake on vimeo and got around 500 views. Great considering I had never really posted on there before. Youtube is better for a larger audience and vimeo is more for people a bit more serious about film making.

I just now went to vimeo and did a search for a topic in which I rank well on youtube. The vimeo results contained numerous videos of naked people and no videos on my actual topic.

What is vimeo exactly? Is it an up and coming?

I think Vimeo has been around for a fair few years now, but wouldn't seem to have the same sort of traffic that youtube has. That said, there are more professional looking videos on there generally than can be found on youtube, I'm talking more about the type of video content here, you know, not so many cat and dog videos uploaded from a mobile phone.

Quality and bitrates of rendered videos seem to be higher too, with the option to pay for more space etc.

The only videos I ever watched on vemio was the staff picked ones I don't think their search engine is very good.
