Is Video Quality Important?

Hi guys!

I've been wondering for a while about this matter and it is the main reason why it took me so long to start uploading videos to Youtube (I've been wanting to post for almost a year now) and that is if video quality is important or if the quality of the content is more important...

I've read some opinions here and in Youtube itself both supporting video quality or content quality so I never reached a definite conclusion.

I'm currently filming on my tablet since I have no other means of filming but I'm thinking about purchasing a reflex camera so I can improve my video quality.

The thing is that I agree with some people's opinion that content is more important and maybe I rather invest the money in things that I can produce content of.. I like to review beauty and make up products so maybe I would rather spend the money on that and invest in the camera later...

And again, on the other side, I'm afraid I might not have a lot of views because people don't want to watch videos of inferior quality...

I guess i'm making this thread because I'm curios about you opinions and maybe i'll get to a better understanding on how to improve my channel...

Maybe you guys want to do some kind of debate?

What do you guys think?

pretty much if you don't have a HD option on your video its not going anywhere although I normally watch 480p since I don't want to waste my internet data watching HD 24/7 ah well. I recently bought a $800 camera which records 1080p 60fps which I used in my latest video but there is no point unless you really want extremely high quality for a short video unless you have extremely good upload speeds pls.

yeah my internet is really slow so I only watch 480p as well... but that's what I'm afraid, that most people don't watch it if it's not HD :/

Video quality is very important BUT!!! If you give really great value people will forgive you a lacks in video or audio quality.

Video quality is quite important, that 720p is the standard these days. However, if the video is interesting, and doesn't need quality to keep my retention, I think it's fine

Quality is always a plus but not necessary. My highest viewed video is 240p with black bars, my second highest is 144p with black bars. That's because it's rare content... Now it would be way better if I had my GoPro and shot the same things in 1080p or 4K, OR mounted my GoPro to the actual weapon system to get a behind the barrel first person view which would be badass! If you can do quality video AND good content, it's better than crappy quality with the same content

It all depends really, everyone is different. Someone may want better content over video quality then others may want the opposite. If anything just find out your budget and come up with different options you can use your budget to work best for you. I have two cameras, a old dvx100a that runs on tapes for skateboarding stuff and a canon t3i for short films and other skits. Its all up to you and what you think is the best option for you.

hmm from what I'm seeing reading everyone's opinions it's kind of a 50/50... Some may enjoy the videos only because of the content but many (if not most) don't stick around if you don't have video/audio quality...
