Is promoting your channel in comments sketchy?

Not to be taken seriously
I have been noticing people leaving comments on videos in popular channels asking viewers to check out the poster's channel. I somehow feel that is sketchy and don't think I am ballsy enough to do that. Thoughts?
 
I don't really have an opinion on them, depends on my mood haha! Sometimes I'll even check them out if I feel adventurous :P
 
I wouldnt do it, something you could try is commenting about their video, dont make it all about you or your channel at all, make it about them and you have a higher chance of anyone paying any attention plus you wont end up with a bad name as a spammer. Not many people would like to be popular with others thinking "They only got popular because they spammed XYZ's comments section".

Yeah, that's my thought exactly. Thanks for confirming my intuition!
 
Some people will go and check your channel out and probably sub to never be seen on your channel again, others will spam all your videos with hate and stuff because you made a bad comment in a video made by their hero :P
