Is Originality Dead on Youtube?

I think its possible to become noticed without having to "piggyback" on trending videos. Obviously the stuff you enjoy can be related to other people and thus may seem like the same thing. You just got to put your own twist on it. I think the word "Originality" is dead. I'm sure you can search the world and find things similar to something else but when you take the aspects of things you enjoy and mix it with your own personal touch then the death of originality is brought back to life in a different way, almost like a phoenix. Which is interesting because where exactly is that fine line of recreating and "stealing" someones ideas. I think originality is what you make of it and how you make it and how you share it.

Is it? Left and right I see Let's players, reviewers, commentators, etc. And it seems like the only way to get any notoriety on youtube is to attach yourself to an already successful product.

In comparison, people who try to create short films or sketches without relying on piggybacking have a much harder time staying relevant.

I think it may even be much harder to keep your original content at a good level of quality to maintain interest.
What do you guys think?

i can see where you're coming from...but originality in general is well maybe not dead but it's not a concept thats new....Everything has mostly been done before..so now its about fine tuning and innovating things that already exist. even the gaming videos out there..something has to separate you from what everyone else is doing in order to get consistent notoriety or else you'll get lost in the shuffle or be a one hit wonder...and in all honesty that that something is your personality. doing good editing and having good ideas is 25% of the battle..if you're personality is flat on screen people won't watch... at least that's how i see it.[DOUBLEPOST=1460810999,1460810968][/DOUBLEPOST]
nothing in this world is original anymore. play towards your strengths and figure out what your unfair advantage is!

i really should read these threads before i post...lol i pretty much typed what you did

Definitely not!! I try to come up with a completely new idea for each video. You can still have spin-offs that are original. Just take a look at Miranda Sings or IISuperWomanII. They are completely original and completely opposite. Find your niche and build off of it.

I don't believe originality in YouTube is dead. I believe that it is dying though. Most of the original work gets buried within the searches, causing people to try to do what the big YouTubers are doing. But I Myself believe that there is originality in some places, you just have to look.

There is originality out there, but it gets pushed aside and the usual stuff gets popular mostly. I think a lot of people are afraid of trying new things and being original in a sense, because it can be risky and not pay off in the end. So a lot of people stick to the usual stuff, that is easy to digest for a lot of people as well.

This is what I'm thinking. I'm trying to put a pretty unique spin on Call of Duty gameplay videos and it's been slow going.

Like people have already said, whatever idea you have come up with has maybe already been done somewhere else on the internet. Being in the comedy realm I try to keep away from already tried formats but that being said I've just done a 2 part Q and A on my channel which has been done by a million people before me. I just want to make content that makes me happy and for things for my audience to enjoy. I'll never intentionally copy someone's work but with some of the things I make, there is a chance that someone somewhere has already done a version of it before me, even if I'm unaware of it. That being said though I've had people rip off my videos too which sucks but that is life!

Just because you post a lets play, commentary, etc. doesn't mean you're unoriginal. That's like saying-
"Hey you know movies are getting unoriginal, I mean they are all films"
