Is making a gaming channel doing you any favours?

They have a dream... To sit and play games whilst entertaining an audience.
They are many. They are frequent.
They are gaming channels.

So don't get me wrong, I am... Half... Of one... Or at least my gaming channel is dying. My vlogs killed my gaming channel.
But it's a good thing. It has opened my eyes. I have found that my gaming videos weren't doing me any favours.
With the amount of gaming channels out there and not many people doing different things with them (IE Gameplay commentary), is it really worth your effort?
I'm not saying stop. Never give up, never surrender!
But I want you guys who see this to have the best shot you can.
How are you going to be different from everyone else?
I am subscribed to SO many Let's Players that it becomes so stale and so boring because they're all doing the same thing and I always tell people that subscribers subscribe to the personality, not the game. So it gets tedious for someone like myself and people who are subscribed to a lot of gaming channels to watch the newest video of this guy reacting to the game being all "Woah, huh! Geez. Oh no!"

There's got to be a way to stand out. There's got to be some way that you guys can break from the herd.
Personally I switched up my channel's style (Genre you might say) and I've been doing brilliantly since. But not everybody wants to switch. I get that, I know how much fun it is.
But how much is it helping you if you don't put 100% effort in to make sure that the viewer isn't watching just a regular everyday let's play?
Find something new to do.
For example, sing the entire commentary.
Rage hard at every bad thing that happens.
Write up a list of jokes or stories and tell them in the boring parts of the game.
Put a facecam on and dance like a maniac when something good happens.

Most importantly, use your voice! Too many people are dull and don't sound like they're speaking to an audience.
This somehow turned into advice.
Well anyway, if you're a gaming channel, let me know what separates you from the pack!

I find my vlogging is kill my tutorials haha so my best advice find the crowd you entertain best and satisfy them! Its all about finding a crowd you love and loves you back

Well, I don't just do commentary either. I make tributes for games and trailer as well. :)

let's plays are secondary on my channel, my weekly news and favorites show comes first for me :D i don't think a channel can survive on lets plays alone anymore, there's just too many of them.[DOUBLEPOST=1365393178,1365392690][/DOUBLEPOST]though i would say the one thing bogging down the gaming region of youtube is the sheer number of people that upload call of duty, i mean there are literally thousands of channels doing this game guys, stop making more channels dedicated to it! XD mini-rant over :D

Well I don't stick to one game. Plus I just have fun with the game. I also like to set my own goals and try to play with other people. The gaming channels that go "Oh geez, no." Annoy me as well. The person doing those channels is basically just acting and it gets really boring. To me for a gaming channel to be successful they have to offer something different and be who are they.

I am also probably going to be apart of a Machinma series soon. So I don't stick to just Let's Play.

Exactly. I was going to say that, but didn't want to start something lol :p. Oh well now XD

I sometimes wonder why people make call of duty channels. It's almost as if they don't know how many there are... Or they think a lot of bigger guys started out as cod channels (And some still are) so it's an easy way to get big.. Or something? I dunno.

Your guess is as good as mine. Its funny because there is one that I know the guy started with Halo xD. Now all he does is CoD and the fanboys get made when I bring Halo up on his channel :P

Yes, I have a gaming channel. And yes, it's not that great and doesn't "do me any favors." I do it just because I enjoy doing it, haha.

Besides, I'm steering away from simple play-and-talk commentaries in an attempt to go for showcases or comedy styles in the future. My channel is still young though...the possibilities are wide.
