Is getting big on youtube still possible?

You can have a CONCENTRATED fan base (500 dedicated viewers, but LOVE YOU AND YOUR CONTENT DEARLY).
Sometimes, big fanbases aren't the be all, end all solution (PewDiePie is a huge example and he had a HUGE spamming problem that he had to turn off his comments for a while)>

There are YouTubers with 500k subs to 60k subs and they have some diehard fans (including me myself ;P)

I think you don't understand my question... All the things you say are very true and I share the same believes I am just asking if you think is it possible for anyone starting in 2014 to get crazy internet famous. Like really famous , like the people who started youtube in forever 2007 . Or the youtube changed to this point that the big are gonna get bigger and the beginners might have few thousands f loyal fans but they are never gonna get super big and they are never gonna be with the popular kids. If it's too late now. And again I am talking purely theoretically.

I agree with you highly.
You are right and YouTube has changed its face forever and focuses on the "BIG ONES", because of this stupid watch time thing.

Dan/Nerdcubed commented that he believes that YouTube is 90% automated (from Content ID, uploading videos and watch time).
For example, if YouTube just focuses on watch time, all they had to implement a system that records the number of watch time.

That's what happened. YouTube is now a huge robot that makes a lot of money through advertising.

I agree with you.

But, ya know. Fight the f*****g system, you can definitely get fans catered to your audience. :D

They started making videos for fun when now people actually try to get famous because they noticed that you can make a lot of money. I believe it's possible, but only with hard work and determination, you may be that 1% that make it. :P

it got so ****** up now. it's good i'm not fame obsessed :D i mean i regret not starting making videos earlier but oh well still haven't figured out how to build a time machine. we just have to remember that we are not doing this for anything else than fun:)

As long as you have an engaged audience, I think that's all the matters.

ITT: "I don't care about fame" That's a obvious lie from everyone. You being famous from YouTube = You just became successful. Do you all hate to be successful? lol?

Of course, the main motivation should not be fame. It should be because you enjoy it, but, saying you completely don't want fame, doesn't make sense and if you truly truly don't seek for fame, you guys would have 300 uploads and 30 views on each video and still continue making them consistently without quitting.

Oh, and to answer the question: Yes, you can very much still be famous. It does not matter which year, or how old YouTube will be. If you make good content (which only 0.1% of people do), you can have a shot of being successful on YouTube. It's like finding a needle in a haystack, or so to speak, it is very very very very hard, but not impossible. Few YouTubers this year have stood out, out of thousands and thousands.

YouTube is still very young and underutilized, I think there are still tons of possibilities that haven't been fully exploited yet. There are more people trying to get famous through YouTube now but that doesn't mean the odds are any tougher than before. If content is bad it's not going to get off the ground regardless of a lack of competition.
 
Yes I saw several channels crossing the 100 K barrier within the last year and getting viral (10 k or more new subs per month).
They did it either by
- creating extremely good content
- exploring a new niche (or rather exploring an old extremely popular niche in new way).

So to answer the question - yes it is still possible even though incomparably more difficult than 3-4 year ago.
 
The answer to your question is yes. But, you will need the help from a few bigger you-tubers to do it. Without a shout-out from them it will be extremely hard for others to notice your videos because there are just too many of them. And then there are people misusing tags and descriptions to try and get the search engine to show their video first. You can't do that per YouTube, but that doesn't mean people don't do it.
