Intros... Are they really needed?

well i think it depends on the videos..if your doing let's plays you don't need an intro, but for gameplay commentaries like COD and all that then an intro would be good..:)
Yeah, your right, I guess I was think more toward my style of videos :P With gaming commentaries you pretty much do the intros your self usually.

So heres how it works for me. I make intros for people and am good with vfx and stuff. However, I dont typically use intros because I usually make one specific to each video. However, if I did a vlog or a gaming channel or something of the kind I would use one, although id definitely change it every 6 months. But if you do short films or anything that doesnt have regular form then dont use intros. If you watch my new short "the jam dilemma" you can see how a properly done intro/outro can make a difference if its made specifically for the film.
This is actually a really good example so here is the link:

Waych the whole thing and you will understand. But you must watch until the end because that is the best part, i think at least

I don't care to use intros myself, but I have seen a couple really great ones. If you're gonna do it, make sure it's amazing, otherwise it's just annoying seeing it every video.

Thing about youtube is that you need to pull your viewers in the video to watch the whole video. If you add an intro don't make it longer than 5 seconds or the viewers will get annoyed and will leave sooner. Intro's are used mainly as short show intro. A small introduction to what is going to come after. With an intro you will know within a few seconds what you are going to watch. An intro with just your name is what most people do but it would be nice to add: Game review, Bueaty & life style, Vlogs etc in there.

An intro isn't needed and I wouldn't suggest it if you don't have a series.

When you don't have an intro the viewer will be pulled right in the action and when you are interesting they will keep looking. Make sure you have something funny or interesting later in the video to keep the viewers mind fresh with new interesting stuff. Don't get boring after the first sentence or you will lose the viewers really quick. Stay fresh and entertaining!

It's nicer to get straight into the video. you could make something for the first 10 seconds for annotations while the video plays.
I use annotations for changing videos in a playlist.
