Request In need of photoshop help.

So I dont know how to use photoshop to save my life and I want to use it for making Thumbnails. I have seen some tutorials but none of them seem to click in my brain. When someone imposes their face on a thumbnail or there body but nothing else over the top of a background how do they do that? If there is someone that would be willing to provide some over skype basic walkthroughs or make a video explaining in depth it would be much appreciated.

It's actually really simple. You see this tool: This tool will be your best friend. It will select a certain area and then you can pull the area away from the orignal image and then place it onto another! :3 Hope it helps.
