I Swear, Calm Down The Intros

I think a long intro is fine, as long as you expect your viewers only to watch your content monthly :)
Yeah like for the Angry Video Game Nerd, I only watch one of his videos a week if at all. I'd hate watching a rapid succession of his videos. But also, the fact that the whole video is so long fits with the long intro.

I think intro's should be short as well. They may look cool and be interesting the first time you see it, but seeing it every time you watch a video gets really annoying. It's like watching the same commercial every time the show goes on break. I personally think 5-8 seconds is perfect length for an intro. It's short, it's sweet, and most importantly - you are not spending to much time watching the intro.

I personally don't think intro's and gaming videos go together. Yes, some work, but I find them a bit odd and out of place. A simple 'Hello guys and welcome to/back to ______' in the beginning is all a gaming video needs.
I agree with this, I think I'm going to get rid of my intro. It's quite annoying to me and I feel just a fade effect in the beginning is enough.

Yeah I think even 11 seconds is fine, even if it is pushing the boundaries a bit. But I have seen intros of people where the intro is almost half the length of the video. I'm talking like a short 3 minute video where the intro is like 1 min 20 sec long. And for gaming channels, the intros create a sense of unity for all of their videos.

This is kind of related. Something I feel needs to be said is that if your intro outshines your content to the max, this hurts you. If your intro is getting me pumped up for something EPIC, and making me think this is about to be AWESOME, and then when it finishes it's you sitting in a room using a grainy webcam going "umm.... so hi... uhhh... I wanted to show you these cool jeans I bought... uhhh" That's worse than if you had no epic intro. If you had no intro I'd be giving you more of a fair shot and not have any expectations, but when I see the huge intro now my brain is ready to be epically entertained, this makes the let down that much worse.

I'd also say, if you ARE going to have an intro more than 3 seconds, have a teaser before you cut to it, to draw people in. Nobody wants to wait 30 seconds to find out IF they want to watch your video.

See, actually, that video sounds hilarious.

Yeah dude! IDK why, but I find myself always agreeing with you lulz. But anyway I think that if you can't live up to your expectations, usually set by the intro, than your video is probably going to be regarded as worse than it actually is.

eh... intros are cool. Makes me feel like I'm watching an actual show and not just some random guy's game footage. I mean if you're gonna have a channel named after a certain thing and give yourself a certain youtube character or gamer name, go all the way with a small intro. Can't even imagine watching AVGN without his classic intro song at the beginning.

Usually I do say to stick to a less than 5 second intro, but I have to agree with you there. I've been watching him for a really long time, and I can't imagine his show without an intro like he has either. Don't know what it is. Maybe it's cause I started watching him on his actual website instead of youtube, but without his intro I feel like there would be a big piece missing.

But even so, I think he's an outlier. Generally I tend to prefer very short intros, or even no intro.
