How to leave Machinima? Help please!

I have been with Mahcinima for 1.5 years of my 3 year contract. I don't want to get into details but I want to leave for obvious reasons. How can I go about leaving Machinima? Has anyone done this before?
 
Probably the best/safest way to end your contract is to just try and reach an agreement to end your contract with them. Then you know you're 100% safe.

Under Dutch law, you generally can not just end a long-term contract that has a specified duration. Read your contract carefully, you might have agreed to a certain way to terminate the agreement. For example, you might need to buy yourself out. I really don't know what your contract says, but I'm assuming you have to upload an x ammount of content each month. If you'd just say "f**k you, I'm not doing it", then that's non-performance. Under Dutch law, Machinima probably couldn't enforce performace from you (obligation is of a too personal nature to enforce), but the bad news is that they could demand compensation. The reason I'm referring to Dutch law is because these things are usually very similar in western countries, though not necessarily (disclaimer: I'm just trying to give you an idea, I don't really recommend non-performing, especially without consulting a lawyer. Please don't do anything stupid based on what somebody on a YouTube forum told you).

One might wonder if Machinima would really want to take you to court for this. I guess that depends on the size of your channel and the ammount of money involved (really don't have a clue how much they'd lose if they'd lose you). Also, it depends on which country's law is applicable. If it's US law, and you live outside of the US, it's going to be pretty tough for them to start a civil lawsuit. Try to force a Saudi-Arabian to come to a US court...

So all in all: read your contract, try to figure out if you've agreed to a way to terminate it, and if not, consult someone who's an expert on this. Also: you might consider trying a legal forum instead of a YouTube forum. And next time you sign a contract: read very, very carefully if it doesn't screw you over. But I guess you've learned that by now.

All this "under Dutch law" who cares.. Machinima are in the US, the laws of the US govern their contracts.
 
If you've read the entire post, then you have noticed this line: "The reason I'm referring to Dutch law is because these things are usually very similar in western countries". I'm just trying to give OP an idea of what his position is atm. At least that's more constuctive than your post is, eh?

Dutch law, just like german is very far away from the laws of most countries when it comes to online agreements.

Machinima know their stuff, they arn't going to have any loop holes.
 
You signed a legal binding Contract, unless they're nice about it or they're in breach of the contract then you won't get out

I'm not saying they left any loopholes. I'm suggesting that there might be a clause in the contract on how to end it. It's common practice.

Also, tell me about the differences, I'm curious. Regarding termination, I don't think we have any special rules that apply to online agreements (of this kind) that don't apply to "normal" agreements. Of course, maybe in the US they do, that's why I wrote the line "though not necessarily" in the first place.
