How to keep talking and keep from losing focus.

I just do a commentary over a video and all the work comes in the post production. I edit all the interesting bits in and all the boring parts I cut out. I'm not a native speaker so that said I do have alot of editing and cutting to do on my videos because I simply suck at saying interesting things :D
Eh he that works well, most of my gold comes from my overreactions, I'm not the greatest actor =P

I write points in notepad before recording if its a topically video I'm doing (Usually my rocket league videos)

I write stuff like what I think of in my head and quickly write it down for example if I'm going to talk about jobs

- How hard it is to find a job
- My experience finding a job
- Why I want/need a job
- Capping off

Then from there I just talk freely like I was talking to another person. What I talk about isn't scripted but the topic is.

if i do a "top list" or anything like that i definitely keep talking points written on notepad and in front on me on my monitor. But honestly, any hiccups or downtime you can edit right out. sometimes i let myself trail or stop to think, and i can easily edit those moments out (unless you are attempting a straight, no edit vlog).

This may sound odd, but it really works. Watch QVC or any of the shopping networks on cable TV for an hour and pay attention to how effortlessly the hosts are able to keep talking the entire time. After you watch it long enough, you start to pick up on their patter and cadence, and it makes it easier for you to talk continuously.

I sometimes actually visualize that I'm talking a real group of X amount of people and that helps me flow the words out a bit easier because it feels more personal and real than just talking to a camera at times.

Yeah, I'll second a lot of this.

I tend to start rambling, and then after I get all my thoughts out, I'll start recording again, and try and put them together a little better. And if I stumble a bit, I can always go back and try again, that's the nice thing about video.

Nice idea, thanks. I don't necessarily make commentary videos or videos where I need to talk a lot, but if I ever make announcements, this method'll be really easy to use. Kudos to you, man.

Well that is a problem that I faced and somehow i'm still facing, in fact my worst fear is to remain without nothing to say. But i found that sometimes silence is needed (I mean no dead air but moment where you are not talking) because I think that it's better talking about something entertaining and doing some small pauses (that you can always delete in the editing part why not) more then speaking endlessly but boring people. I think that balance is reached only through practice.

It really wierd man. When i read the post i was is he talking about me. I really have a bunch of postit's infront of me about jokes, topics etc. But the main thing i think is if you havent played the game. Just play it for an hour or so and commentate with or without recording it and the second time should be much easier to come up with topics since you have your postit's , your mind that constantly comes up with something and the jokes, comments, topics you made on the first take. And it is as entertaining if you made at first time.
