How to ignore the numbers of views and subs?

AHHH!! I'm really new to this, but someone suggested that I join a forum to grow my community and get more involved, so AHHHH!!

I started my channel 2 years ago and had an EXTREMELY rough start. 1) I was 17 and had no idea what I was doing/what life was. I literally was only in it for the numbers and the fame. I didn't care about the quality of my content or anything, all I wanted was popularity. 2) I wasn't confident enough in myself physically or mentally to produce content that was true to my life and personality. After 1 year of NO success and a sh*t (are you allowed to curse on here idk) ton of spamming on other people's videos (I KNOW I'M CRINGING TOO) I straight up just quit. I was so discouraged and upset.

NOW 2 years later and I have rebuilt my channel from scratch! I've watched and learned so much in the past year alone and now feel as though I am finally at a place in my life where I am finally in it for the right reasons. Obviously I still get a little bothered by numbers every once in a while, but I genuinely am now only creating content for pure enjoyment and am holding myself to the highest standards. I'm really proud of how far I've come, I'm excited to continue growing, and I'm excited to share this journey with all of you :)

ALSO, let me know if you guys have any tips or tricks on how to look past views/subscribers!!

Hi, welcome to YTtalk.

I've moved your thread to the strategy forum and edited the title because it belongs here more than the milestones forum. :)

To fix your link, please follow the instructions in this post: http://yttalk.com/threads/how-to-add-your-youtube-channel-to-every-message-post.32/

I hope you stick around and get involved in some of the discussions in the main forums. Loads of good advice in the main forums for growing a channel. :)

What helps me is taking a second to appreciate that at least I'm not getting 2000 views from someone saying that I was a crappy human being and people commenting telling me really mean things!! I'd rather have 5 genuine interest views than a million troll views.

Your channel link doesn't work, but yes it's pretty annoying to see those low view counts. Not much to do about it other than giving it your best. If you gave it your best, what else can you do right?

In my opinion, it's not bad to want to grow, wanting to grow helps your motivation ( trying to be better, to be the best, not giving up ) - for example, the people who make it to the Olympics get there because they WANT to be the best right so that makes them work hard. Don't get me wrong though, threads like this has been done A LOT and as much as people say "pure enjoyment only" I don't think that is 100% true. There was someone on here who said they wanted to do it for pure enjoyment ONLY but still post threads asking for advice about thumbnails, what people like to see in videos etc - which contradicts the not caring about growing part.

You can do it for enjoyment and want to grow but don't let one or the other get in the way. If you enjoy it, keep doing it and keep getting better. If you don't see yourself grow then there is no shame in feeling bad about it, just work through it and keep getting better. But don't let it get to the point where not growing will make it NO fun for you, make sure you have a good balance.

In my opinion if you lie to yourself about it wanting to be for pure enjoyment only while ignoring the area where you want it to grow, it'll effect you in a bad way --- find a common ground between wanting to grow and having fun and I think you'll be good to go!

Sorry, I completely disagree.
Would you ask a pilot to not look at his instruments?
Would you ask a doctor not to look at his numbers, how many he's helped? How many he's lost? To learn from mistakes.
Would Matt Damon not look at his numbers to see how well Jason Bourne is doing? I'm pretty confident the studio execs would.
Would a top channel like DCTC or RTR not look at their numbers?
Would the best of the best in the pools at the Olympics not obsess with their numbers and do all they can to shave 0.01 seconds off their time?
Not looking at your numbers is being haphazard about your enterprise or how you are growing, and most importantly how you can improve. That is not how successful *anything* is made in this world.
I've got our live views streaming continuously in browser windows. I want to know the exact state of my business at all times.

Hey Connie! Thanks for sharing, I believe we've all been there in terms of starting off without a clear idea of what we wanted to do and therefore just going in with 'this could be a good idea for some attention' and therefore the quality of our content suffers. For me I have to admit, I do get sucked in to 'How many views did my video make today,' but I've learnt to appreciate the time, effort and strength gone into making/editing my videos and get excited for creating more cool content. I would advise you to focus on why you starting your channel in the first place. You joined YouTube with the idea in mind that success is not always guaranteed but when you love what you do, you change your mindset and you understand regardless of success, I'm still going upload my content because it's what I love to do.

Hope this helped!

oh no yeah I totally agree!! By "pure enjoyment" I just mean, at this moment in time, my main objective isn't to get "famous". 2 years ago I was really negative and the slow growth had a very toxic effect on me. I would literally just sit and stare at my phone watching my view count. I would film with the idea "I need to be famous" stuck in my mind and I didn't care that I wasn't even having fun (Like a kid joining a soccer team with only the intention of winning a gold medal at the Olympics, but they've never played before/don't even know if they like playing the sport/all they are thinking about is that it's the fast/easiest sport to win gold in).

But yeah, I should have definitely made my post clearer by explaining that I definitely want to grow, but I also genuinely love creating too and that I'm looking for ways to not be so insecure about my numbers and how to look past it to improve.

Thanks for taking the time out to respond though!! I really do appreciate the advice.
